Frontlines: Fuel of War is a large-scale military first-person shooter developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ. Released during a period crowded with modern warfare shooters, the game sought to separate itself from competitors through its ambitious depiction of a near-future global conflict driven by dwindling energy resources. Rather than focusing solely on traditional military rivalries, the game imagines a world where oil shortages, economic instability, and environmental decline have pushed nations into a desperate struggle for survival. This premise provides a compelling backdrop that still feels relevant years after its release and gives the campaign a stronger sense of purpose than many shooters of its era. The story places players in the ranks of the Western Coalition as they battle the Red Star Alliance across a variety of war-torn locations. While the narrative itself is not particularly focused on character development, it succeeds in presenting a believable geopolitical conflict where access to resources becomes the primary motivation for war. The campaign unfolds through a series of military operations that showcase the scale of the conflict, giving players the…1 found this helpful
Solid game....solid story with the backdrop being 'energy crisis' and it works well here, good gun play ,good mix of gadgets you control ( gives you agency ) the FX in Weapons sound etc is good, great mix of on foot and in tanks ,from memory you get to blow ♥♥♥♥ up in an attack helo...i first picked this game up on retail disc 2010 or so ....for reasons i bought the digi copy,,,,overall my experience 'bloody fantastic! ...highly recommended.1 found this helpful
I beat the game on hardcore so ymmv. Ai is robotic, tracks you through walls, operates with instant reaction time and perfect aim. They have higher accuracy than you do. Team ai is unable to support you in any meaningful way or even kill simple enemies, often failing to simply show up. This leaves me running around large battlefields, being the whole damn platoon. There is no effort to get the player invested, wether in the moment or in the story. Which it seems someone actually made an attempt to write. Graphics are average and sound design is good. Nothing more to say. Standard unreal engine 3. Game lasts as long as it should and comes with 2 hidden sp maps if you care enough. I dont. Overall the experience has been just above a waste of my time 5/10. I would look elsewhere.
Brings back old memories. But yeah game is too damn short. Would recommend on sale.
good game
Frontlines: Fuel of War depicts a desperate, resource-starved future where global stability has collapsed entirely into an endless, brutal struggle for oil. This bleak, post-everything setting effectively captures the exhaustion of a world pushed to its absolute limits by continuous conflict and the total depletion of essential natural supplies. Stationary turrets and objective-based capture sequences form the primary rhythm of this linear campaign, casting the player as an utterly replaceable soldier. Such a design choice emphasises the vast, impersonal scale of the war, where maintaining the momentum of the mission objective becomes infinitely more vital than individual survival. Bullet-sponge adversaries frequently undermine the sense of tactical realism, as enemies endure excessive damage while simultaneously demonstrating pinpoint, rapid-fire accuracy. These combat encounters create a persistent imbalance that leaves the player feeling significantly underpowered, often making the basic act of pushing forward against entrenched forces feel like a chore. Inconsistent control mapping, particularly regarding basic actions like crouching or proning, complicates the experience fo…
