Fruit Fetish

The gameplay in this is deeply unpleasant and counterintuitive. The font is a legibility nightmare. The constant nuisances thrown at you throughout every shift seem to offer nothing for the displeasure, serving only to hobble you. I would not recommend this.

I play a lot of incremental games and like to try new ones, especially from small developers. Here are my thoughts as an incremental game fan. I don't want to hurt a small developer, but there are too many problems with this game for me to be able to recommend it, even at this price. I did not make it past the two hour mark and have requested a refund. UI/CONTROLS: I almost immediately had a weird glitch where I couldn't exit out of one of the "end of night" screens. I basically whacked my keyboard for a bit and it went away after a minute of frustration but dev should look into this. This did only happen once. Frankly I don't even see a point in that screen sticking--make it an overlay that disappears after a couple of seconds and give me a button to look at past nights if I want to (I won't). In addition, I should absolutely be able to use ESC to close the upgrade tree, end of night screen, etc. I can't right now, I have to hit U again or click the x, which is annoying. Speaking of, the UI of the upgrade tree is confusing--sometimes I'll upgrade something and it will create a new line to... nothing? The next night it isn't there. Glitchy. Fruit Fetish is worth every cent. It is an addictive, irreverant and genuinely funny game made by a solo indie developer and gets the one thing right that every game should... it's fun. It has loads of personality and delivers that constant dopamine injection you get from making money and winning big, you might find in other popular indie titles. The meta-narrative on corporate growth and rampant capitalism is also a really clever way to consistenly deliver hilarious lines while providing an interesting carrot to chase from a narrative perspective. I played this on both PC and my ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X, where it ran perfectly. For the price, it's absolutely worth it and I'm excited to see what Chubby Weevil makes next.

I found Fruit Fetish to be a highly addictive and satisfying incremental game. It is a unique take on one of my favourite gaming genres and I greatly enjoyed my time with it. All in all, it took about 6 odd hours to finish. The art and sound design are really well done. The main loop has that "just another turn" feel to it. And whilst the cruder elements may not be for everyone (I thought they were pretty funny but some of it went over my head), I highly recommend it. Full disclosure, the dev gave me a prerelease key to try the game out. Even though I have a key, I am gonna buy a copy to support as they have done a great job. Hope to see more from them in future. EDIT: Apparently you can't buy a game if you already have the key on Steam. I will gift it to a mate instead!

Early game takes too long, game defaulted to controller without giving me an option, then I ran through several days worth of gameplay with no chance to skip after I ran out of fruit, and no way to upgrade between runs? Not sure if I missed something but maybe bring those things forwards if they unlock because the coregameplay loop isn't that fun.

I'm very new to incremental games and enjoyed this as an intro to the genre. It was a fun couple of hours and I enjoyed the progression mechanics and humour. I'm looking forward to how the game develops and seeing any further projects from this dev!
