About Game of Squares

Got some time on your hands but don't have a cube? Play "the Game of Squares"! It is an easy to play puzzle game! Want a challenge? Turn up the starting number of flips and a 4x4 grid! Reached a milestone in the game? Mark it! Made a mistake? Undo or go back to the mark! Want to get used to the game? Use the practice mode! Whether you have just a few minutes or hours together, Squares promises to make it fun!

Key Features

  • Play a 2 * 2, 3 * 3 or 4 * 4 grid
  • Choose the Rubik Mode in case you want to keep the centre pieces from moving, just like a real cube
  • Choose the number for the initial set of turns to start the game. Start with zero in case you want a sandbox mode or a low number to practice your skills.
  • Choose the number of sets of patterns to match.
  • See the history of turns that you have made.
  • Bookmark a particular turn that you want to go back in case you make a mistake or go back to the start of the game, if you want to retry it
  • See the initial set of turns so that you can check your solution against what was actually generated.
  • Customise the theme - we recommend Dracula for all day use. In case you need a high contrast theme, we have that too. Of course, if you want to give your eyes a workout , we have couple of light coloured themes too
  • Turn off particles and animations if you are playing a serious game where every second counts
  • Choose from a set of languages in case you want to play in your native one or just a language that you like. (please do let me know if there are corrections)

We recommend starting off with a 2*2 grid and setting starting flips to 2 and increasing it from there.

I'm sorry, this seemed like a fun idea when I bought it, but it's just not. I've been solving cubes of all sizes for years, and I've played and mastered numbers of puzzle games, but here, to get all the achievements? Either I finally got skillchecked or there wasn't enough thought put behind designing this game. I see the inspiration with the original Rubik's cube, but that's all, an inspiration, the faces don't rotate, only the layers. Feels like it's designed in a way where the "intended" way to beat it is to keep half-randomly guessing what's the next move, and undoing it if it was the wrong one (hence the whole "set mark" and "go to mark" system), which does not in any way make for a good puzzle game. Pros: - Original concept, I'll give you that - Fitting music Cons: - Horrible, horrible achievements, I cannot stress this enough, "solve over 1 hour" is just letting the game run in the background for an hour, fun. They're also very exploitable and they only check if you CLICK on the initial moves, you can already have it open when starting a new game and it'll still count. I've already explained my issues with sub 1 minute above, not feasible. - Flimsy UI, it's hard to rota…
