A perfectly serviceable, but otherwise utterly unremarkable, twin-stick shooter. Not particularly complex in terms of progression or gameplay, but it’s short enough that it doesn’t really have to be. Very little in the way of replay value, though. 5/104 found this helpful
Gatling Gears, developed and published by Vanguard Games, is a polished twin-stick shooter that leans fully into its arcade roots, delivering a steady stream of explosions, enemy waves, and mechanical chaos. Set in a stylized dieselpunk world, the game places you in control of a heavily armed walking machine, marching through enemy territory with one clear purpose: destroy everything in your path. While the narrative follows a familiar arc of resistance against industrial oppression, it remains largely secondary to the action, functioning more as a thematic backdrop than a central pillar of the experience. The gameplay is where Gatling Gears truly shines, built around a responsive and satisfying control scheme that separates movement and aiming into two distinct inputs. This allows players to weave through incoming fire while maintaining a constant offensive presence, creating a rhythm that feels both dynamic and intuitive. The mechanics are easy to pick up, making the game approachable even for those new to the genre, but they also reward precision and awareness as enemy density increases. Success often depends on reading the battlefield quickly—knowing when to advance, when to r…1 found this helpful
Es un shooter cenital sencillo, de disparar a todo lo que se mueva. No gran cosa, pero entretenido.
This is one of my favorite games on my old Xbox 360 (the third one, RIP... see Red Ring of Death). It's now 15 years old, and this Steam version runs flawlessly right out of the box. What a positive surprise! GG features a lengthy campaign, three difficulty modes, and is a twin-stick shooter. The graphics still look gorgeous, aka "get lost, UE5, with your ridiculous hardware hunger." The controls with my 8BitDo gamepad featuring high-precision Hall effect sticks are tight and precise. The Gameloop is easy to understand. Go from point A to point B, kill the enemy, and find the three hidden gold bars in each level to upgrade your Mechwarrior. That's it. Each section of the campaign is around 20 to 30 minutes long. GG still has sadly console save points. And will record your deeds only after the mission is finished. In my book, that's okay because this kind of game wasn't designed to be binged. Overall, I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10. It's on Steam for 10 bucks and totally worth it. It's a steal on a deep sale. Thank you for reading. Be well!
Completely flat and mostly boring experience, not challenging in the slightest even on Hard but fun enough that you keep going. It's got a lot of hype, neat graphical touches, nice explosions, etc. Get it on sale. But honestly it's a pretty dry twin-tick. Good for passing time, not anything else. For what it is, it's very well made.
Given its age, Gatling Gears holds up exceptionally well! It's a tough, reasonably fast paced twin stick shooter with a diesel punk aesthetic, it controls well and (again, given it's age) the graphics have held up well. You can upgrade your mech as you play and, whilst these upgrades don't offer any greater variety beyond the basic three weapons you start out with, they do improve the power and durability of your mech and its appearance and, by the end of the game, the slightly weedy bot you started out with will have turned into a bulky, destructive badass (it's always nice to see visual upgrades in a game). The enemies and bosses are varied and put up a good fight; often, when there's lots of them on screen, the game turns into something of a bullet-hell experience, requiring you to weave through waves of bullets and dodge homing missiles and slow-rays. The game is generally pretty chaotic and engaging throughout! If I had one criticism of this game, it would be with the odd foibles that come from it being so old: Firstly, the settings to adjust the resolution or frame rate are non-functional. They're there, in the menu, but you can't change them (and attempting to do so will…
