The successor and downgrade of "Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows". Lots of game-breaking issues, but it mostly boils down to the following: Frame rate dependent logic, meaning if the game lags -- and it will due to the nature of flash games; enemies can simply ignore hits, while towers forget to fire. This is especially harmful when the game is sped up. It also means swarmlings become extremely frustrating to deal with, in fact, they become the most unbalanced crap I have ever seen in the tower defence genre, and no strategy will save you from bad design, not even the Chain component from the previous title could save you. None of this should be a problem in practice, except for the fact that some of the features in this game don't follow this logic, hence throwing the game into total chaos when switching speeds or dropping frames. Trials are not challenging, they are embarrassing and poorly designed. The game is too Grind-festy compared to the previous title. Pylons and Lanterns are great concepts and additions to the game, but while the former has a use case in pretty much any scenario, the later is just horribly useless until much, much, much later in the game.. I also feel I get…3 found this helpful
A tower defense with incredible strategic and tactical dept, game modes, long term building that changes the gameplay.2 found this helpful
There are hundreds of tower defense games, many of which are unremarkable. To stand out in this crowded field, you have to really be something special. Somehow Gemcraft manages to have that amazing ability to engage and draw you back again and again. Its hard to explain why these pieces of the game feel so satisfying, but the progression, the challenge, the choices all feel so meaningful and exciting. After beating the other Gemcraft, I put off getting Frostborn Wrath for years. Now that I play it, I find myself coming back again and again. I enjoy the difficulty.1 found this helpful
A worthy successor to Gemcraft: Labyrinth and Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows.
Top 3 Tower defense game if not number 1. Addictive, progressive and with lots of challenges.
Not recommended 2/5.
