About Geneticognito

A small but fun stealth platformer! Geneticognito is a short but sweet experience, where you navigate through increasingly difficult levels while trying not to be spotted. Each level has it's own hectic boss fight at the end, as you follow Rane and her escape from Sky Facility.

During the attack on a mysterious facility in the sky, an experiment called Rane gets the chance to escape. However, to make it outside she'll have to pass through all the dangerous areas of the facility, fight hostile genetic experiments, and defeat the ones who've held her captive.

After having been contained there for years, she'll use the full extent of her abilities to make it out and gain her freedom!

What is Geneticognito?

Geneticognito is a 2D platformer with combat and stealth mechanics. Levels consist of hazards that can either damage Rane directly, or detect her. If Rane is detected, security robots will appear through doors, and the exit door to the level locks itself. Rane may fight the security robots and shoot them down, but unlimited amounts of robots will continue spawning while in Alert state. So stealth is important!

It's a fun game and I feel like I got my money's worth.
Positives
It's a fairly interesting game: a stealth platformer with Metal Slug-like aiming, mixed with fast-paced/dodge centric segments in some boss fights. Think of a short/arcady megaman style game minus the upgrades. The game is enjoyable, and has a funny bit of worldbuilding near the end. In my opinion, what it does, it does enjoyably, so it's a light game, you can give a shot if you don't have much time and want to try to play through a not too hard puzzle plarformer.
Improvements that could be made
There are some things which don't seem that developed like the story (no skip option), options menu (no rebindable keys or controller support) and some mechanics like the vertical shooting and "strafing"(locking the aim to one side) which are only used in boss battles and not necessary at that. I would have liked to set jump to the up key, since there was little point to aiming up aside from the battle with one flying boss. Secondly, bot AI is pretty exploitable, you can just crouch and wait for the alarm to end, then pass through the door. I also found a big difficulty spike in the final boss ba…

Geneticognito is an action stealth platformer where you play as someone held captive in a mysterious facility, taking advantage of the fact it's under attack in an effort to escape it. There are two main aspects to the game, the first being stealth. Navigating through the facility, you must avoid various environmental hazards such as lasers, jets of fire and tentacled monstrosities hiding within sections of water. You must also avoid being detected by searchlights and yellow beams because otherwise you'll trip the alarm, the exit will lock and security drones will be dispatched to hunt you down. This leads to the second aspect, combat. You're equipped with an attack drone of your own that you use to destroy the security drones and containers that contain health, plus you also use it to fight against the various bosses that will block your way. The game is divided into areas, each area containing several levels. The first level's level design is something I appreciate because I can see how it gradually teaches the player the different mechanics of the game, going from movement and interaction, to shooting, to avoiding detection, to avoiding hazards, before they're all combin…

The game was short, but it was fun! I would love to see more of this, and a story that has more depth. To those who want to see more of the game, check my uploaded gameplay video https://youtu.be/I3FxiGQX__Y EDIT: Fixed broken video link

A fun little platformer which is well worth the money. I suggest giving it a go if you like playformers :D I had a little glitch during the final boss though. I somehow went into the floor lol
