One of the best platformers I have ever played, and personally appeals to me more than Celeste did. The obvious elephant here is that this game is heavily inspired by Celeste. It feels almost identical to play, and the art style is very similar, but it has its own unique theme and a few new mechanics. The most obvious difference is the addition of a Super Mario Sunshine esque hover pack. A lot of the game is built around this, so as a standalone game, this offers plenty to justify the price relative to Celeste. Would highly recommend to this to anyone, including people who don't normally play platformers. If you can't handle some of the difficulty later on, there are readily available accessibility options to cater to whatever play style you want.9 found this helpful
First things first: this is not a Celeste clone, but rather a game that is heavily inspired by Celeste, and this is why it is so good. Not a lot of games can hold the bar up to Celeste's level, and this one can. Germinal is fun to play through, it kept me interested all the way to the end. All mechanics are well polished and the level design is remarkable as well, both in normal mode and in the hard mode. There are some annoying sections here and there, but what game doesn't have them? Kudos to the devs for adding a no-death achievement with the cute cat, got it as well. Meow! I highly recommend playing Germinal if you like platformers, honestly any kind of them, main campaign didn't feel hard at all. Too bad that the game got kinda ruined by the lack of marketing. Truly a hidden gem.7 found this helpful
Quick Score: 5/5 Notes: Ignore, block, and unfriend anyone that says this is a Celeste clone. It has similarities, especially visually, but the core mechanic of the game is entirely unique from Celeste and as a result plays almost nothing like it. The only way you could say this was an actual clone is if you have also only ever played Celeste and think Celeste invented platformers. Rant aside, the game is good, no real complaints. My biggest complaint for a while was the lack of a quick restart button for speedrunning, but the option does exist, it is just hidden in the menus. The game took about 25 hours and 3000+ deaths for me to 100% (hard achievements) Overall pretty difficult but not impossible. If you like platformers you will like this. I didn't really care for the dialogue or story, but I almost never do. This one in particular I found pretty bad though personally.5 found this helpful
A fun precision platformer that seems heavily inspired by Celeste. It does more than enough to stand out however, with a heavy focus on its unique hoverpack mechanic. Well designed levels and a solid difficulty curve made this enjoyable enough to recommend! Check out https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41559946 for more recommendations!2 found this helpful
