Gimbal Gravity * 6/10
How come nobody used 2006 Prey's cool vertical pads mechanics to make a puzzle game portal style? Wait, Gimbal Gravity did!
INTRO & GAMEPLAY. What is Gimbal Gravity about & how does it work?
A space station used for experiments with variable gravity is in trouble and you're the last one in there that can save the situation. Not the most innovative story, I agree, but gameplay speaks for itself. As usual you have to find a way to exit the room you find yourself into, and for this you have to solve riddles based on vertical and upward platforms, cubes that open doors when placed on sockets, each cube can have its own gravity direction. Or it could be not affected by gravity at all, hence float towards the point you aimed at. There are also timed gravity inversion platforms. The combination of all these elements grant a good level of entertainment as you start with very easy puzzles to understand how everything works, but soon things will get more and more complicated. I think the puzzles were very well designed once the mechanics started to get combined, and figuring out the solution was very satisfying. As a point of criticism though, I found it extremely frustrating that the voice over kept giving away the puzzles, and didn't give me time to solve things myself. Good first person puzzle platformer. The main game mechanic is being able to change your personal gravity direction by walking on curved pads between your current floor and a wall, so once you walk across the pad, what was the wall is now your floor, and your gravity is pointing down towards the new floor. There are a series of puzzle chambers (levels), and the aim of each one is to get to the exit. Sometimes doors (to the level exit, or to another room within the chamber) may be locked, and there is a mechanism of placing powered cubes on what are effectively switches to open the door. There are a couple other mechanics: I mentioned already cubes as a means of activating switches, but the cubes can also be used as platforms to reach places you couldn't otherwise. The cubes can also be placed on special floaty platforms, pushing the platform slightly in the direction of the cube's gravity. Oh yeah, cubes also have their own direction of gravity (which never changes, even if your own does), and sometimes no gravity at all - they just kinda float where you leave them. The final mechanic is the existence of timed gravity resetters that you can walk on, which after a few seconds, …
This game is really good - a fun and innovative puzzle game. Maybe too expensive for 6$ (I bought it for less than one buck). It reminds me SolarGun, another indie puzzle game with many good features. I guess that it could be a little bit more improved because controls are not always smooth as expected - especially jump on cube. I don't like the main aesthetic - too gray. It could be really better. However the main gameplay is amazing and addictive. It deserves more ratings. I recommend Gimbal Gravity ++
Great puzzle platformer with mostly light puzzles, with some medium to hard puzzles at the end. Play time for me was 4 hours, and that included getting stuck on a few levels by overthinking the solution. The puzzle aspect is figuring out how to connect the givers and receivers and how to reach the exit. Most of the time, you can figure it out relatively quickly, but some levels definitely make you think about it, especially when you reach the gravity resetter pads. The last level was particularly sneaky. I don't know why some people compare this to Portal or say it tries to copy Portal. Other than both games being first-person puzzle-platformers which contain cubes, I see no similarities (other than both games being great fun). The only change I would like to see is the ability to run. Some levels (especially the last level) can include a lot of walking, especially if you're unsure of the solution, and that can be frustrating. All-in-all, I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys puzzle-platformers. At 3-4 hours play time, I think it's worth it, even at full price.
I played the all game, and to me it feels like it starts so slow. The start is too slow and annoying but the end is nice and fun. I think that untill the third gimbal there are not a lot of puzzles and most of them require more platforming skills than puzzle solving. The platforming was not fun enough, because it didnt feel smooth enough. The puzzles in the third gimbal though were fun and entartaining and i was fine with buckle through the annoying platforming at part for it. Summary: its more of a technical demo and the price is fine for that. The last 7 puzzles are fine but before that the tutorials are hard on platforming and easy puzzles which is not fun at all (the first and second gimbal were an annoyance) You tried to copy a bit too much from portal and its a bit too bad... because there are a lot you can do differently. it has potential but at the current status overall it is not a good expirience, but maybe for someone new for the concept it will be more fun. I recommend to drop many of the platforming stuff and remove many of the levels in the second gimbal, I cannot recommand this game, but i do recommand the end of it.
