God Of Thunder

I ABSOLUTELY cannot beleive i found this on steam, probably the last game i loved before totally left gaming behind at about 16 to get caught up in life and now as i am nastalgic for those simple early days, i find this! so great and there is a template to use my xbox controller, tonight i reminice!!!!

I remember playing the first chapter [shareware version] of got.exe on DOS over and over again as a wee kid back in the day. Besides the amazing nostalgia trip, gameplay still feels tight, humor fresh, and the controls responsive. With the unbeatable price tag of USD 0 and no issues with modern hardware, this is a great game to spend several hours on.

I never got far in this one as a child because it was merely one of the dozens of games on a shareware compilation CD. There both is and isn't a surprising amount of content in the first/free episode. On one hand, playing through it blind is a handful of puzzles, some mild top-down combat, and running around talking to NPCs. I dare to call it somewhat modern in that there are no lives, you simply start over on each screen when you die. On the other hand, the speedrun for this episode is less than 12 minutes once you know in which order to tackle the screens. It didn't really click with me as an adult, but if you're somehow reading this review I recommend checking it out to see how PC gaming used to be.

My god! I have thought about this game from time to time the past 20 years. It took me a while to even figure out what the name was. And to my surprise It's on steam. Thanks so much RDavis! This brings back so many fond memories and now that I'm old as hell maybe I will be able to beat this game!

I played this shareware a lot back in the day and had a revisit in 2026. The fun holds up! I forgot the puzzles and they're pretty clever paired with a sort of non-linear exploration, also the humor, so it was quite replayable. Reminds me of Chips Challenge combined with Zelda. Keeping my eye out for a God of Thunder 2 ;)

I actually played this obscure game back in the day on my older brother's computer. He'd download a bunch of games to keep me occupied. I had completely forgotten about this game until watching a SNES Drunk video talking about obscure games. My mind exploded the moment I saw the game on the screen once that forgotten memory came flooding back. I downloaded and started playing. This game has that old-school humor that was prevalent back in those days (kinda like the original Monkey Island) and that I find amusing. Anyway, the game play can be a little challenging when it comes to timing insta-death projectiles using kinda wonky directional keys and a speedy little hero. It has just enough "go talk to this person and then find the item they want to get a key" style quests to keep you entertained but nothing where it starts to feel like tedious, never ending fetch quests (looking at you, No Man's Sky...). Anyway, if you can tolerate really old games like this, this is a great game. If not, it's understandable. Nevertheless, I recommend this game.
