GUNPIG: Firepower For Hire

This is a very short and very easy top-down twin-stick shooter that seems to be inspired mostly by the 1988 arcade game Gauntlet. It's only $5 but I don't think most players will get that much enjoyment out of it (I got it for much cheaper in a bundle). There appear to be several bugs: None of the Steam achievements unlocked for me even after finishing the game. The store page also lists Steam Leaderboards as a feature, but I couldn't find any way to view them either in-game or in the community hub. The volume slider for the music (which sounds pretty good overall) resets to zero after each stage. And even though the game uses the left gamepad stick for movement, there is no analog speed control. Meaning that even gently tapping the stick in any direction gives you full acceleration, so I spent a lot of time careening across the stages when all I wanted was to make small adjustments. Even having that difficulty with movement speed though, I never came close to dying at any point in the game, and I doubt that anyone other than young children would have any trouble beating it on the first try, as I did. GUNPIG: Firepower For Hire is a 3D rendered 2D top down low poly console ported twin stick wave survival shooter. There's a cutesy pig theme, whatever. Gameplay consists of landing in the level and shooting the enemies as they come at you, kiting everything around... damn, the concept is more boring than my boring description of it. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to pu…

This game could be fun, graphically it's nice, and sound wise, it's acceptable, however the controls are completely broken for me. Trigger buttons to move up and down, left stick that moves left and right. Right stick that flips you facing left and right, and the Back and Start button to fire. Yep, broken. I couldn't even get keyboard controls to work. The mouse is broken too, with the ship either facing left or right. It's a pity, as the game looks like it could be fun for a while. If the controls ever get fixed, I might come back and have another play.

Gunpig is a colorful and enjoyable little score attack twinstick shooter, starring an adorable cartoony pig character, that has only one thing on his mind: shoot aliens and rack up as much cash as possible! The game is divided into several levels, where you have to find the main baddy and take it out, although there are some other objectives sometimes, like shooting barrels under a time limit. While flying through the levels, you might also find cleverly hidden secrets, and special cards that unlock character graphics and concept artworks in the main menu. You can change your weapon by collecting fruits from special dispensers - there are a total of 9 different fruits/weapons, each one also having an alternative fire mode, ranging from spreads to mines. The only minor thing I've noticed while playing is that the wall collision is a bit weak on the corners, and it's easy to fly outside the level bounds, but it's also equally easy to go back, so it's not that annoying. If you like twinstick shooters, and need a quick burst of adrenaline every now and then, you can't go wrong with Gunpig!
