About Haunted Jail: Alcatas

Haunted Jail: Alcatas is a 2D Survival Horror Game based on the paranormal events of the oldest and the most haunted prison in Alcatas, witnessed by those who set foot inside the place.

Alcatas island is famous for the dark history associated with the most haunted prison in Alcatas. The prison was built in 1859 initially as the U.S. Military defense and then as long-term military prison during 1868. Long before the prison was even built on the land, there was a rumor going around that the land was haunted. The place had an unpleasant feeling from the very beginning as the earliest inhabitants of the land were the Native Americans. Fast forward to the early 1940s, it was reported that there were some prisoners who were shot to death by jail guards, some of them were punished inside a punishment chamber by various means including the beatings, electric shock treatment etc. It had resulted in deaths of some of the prisoners and their spirits were trapped inside the prison. Now, the majority of the jail is closed due to various reasons except the A-Block. No prisoners are kept in B, C and D-Block due to many reports of the paranormal events. It is reported that sounds of cell door slamming, voices, gunshots, scream etc. can still be heard to this day. Anyone who enters the building has some sort of unexplained paranormal experiences even though the people at the Alcatas main office located in the west of Alcatas Island are in denial about the paranormal.

At present, only two jail guards are recruited to maintain the tight security of the prison. No one usually visits the punishment chamber due to lots of tragedy, pain, suffering which are associated with it. You play as one of the jail guards whose mission is to secure the building. It is easier said than done because you never know what else is waiting for you in the Haunted Prison.

Key Features:

  • Explore the Haunted Prison and experience the paranormal.
  • Face your fears while you are exploring the creepy corridors and secret rooms.
  • Explore the Spirit world.
  • Lots of spirits and demons lurking in the shadows.
  • Nearly Half an hour duration of Paranormal Investigation.

Note: I am a solo indie game developer and I have done all of the graphics, artwork, animation, level design, and programming except for the music. I hope you will enjoy the game.

This is basically a walking 2D simulator with creepy monsters, you can't defend yourself other than find clues as to what is going on in the prison block. now the monsters can kill you. but you can't kill them, all you can do is run away. If you can at least defend yourself than this game would be good. Its not a bad game, and I like the music in the background. but if you can't do anything other than find clues, walk around and not able to defend yourself than its not fun to play. though it says you can hit enter for action. but it didn't seem to work. Others might enjoy it, but I got quite bored after awhile.

I don't know if I'd say this is worth $1... but I got some entertainment and easy achievements to 100% so I'm happy. I recommend this on 50% off sale.

Haunted Jail: Alcatas is a 2D top down retro pixel stealth/puzzle game where you wander around a jail that doesn't have much in the way of lighting (not a great idea) to discover it's haunted. Run away from the ghosts and solve the simple switch flicking puzzles. The implementation here is garbage. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC.

Haunted Jail: Alcatas developed and published by Anamik Majumdar is a short atmospheric horror adventure that places players inside a mysterious and allegedly haunted prison complex. Designed as a small indie project, the game focuses on exploration, paranormal encounters, and building tension through eerie environments rather than fast-paced action or complicated mechanics. While its scale is modest, the game attempts to capture the unsettling experience of investigating a cursed location filled with tragic history and supernatural disturbances. The story takes place on Alcatas Island, home to an infamous prison facility that once served as both a military installation and later a high-security correctional institution. Over the decades, the prison gained a reputation for brutality, suffering, and unexplained incidents. According to the lore presented in the game, many prisoners died under harsh conditions, and rumors began circulating that their restless spirits never left the prison grounds. Eventually, large sections of the prison were shut down after staff reported hearing voices in empty corridors and witnessing strange apparitions. These stories turned the abandoned prison …

I like this developer and this genre. This seem to be one of his first in this genre. If you have played other games from this Dev, then this suck! Tip: 90% of time go up or down, don't bother right-left. Easy Achievements, 100% / 45min.
