About Hellbreaker
Run. Dodge. Kill.
Hellbreaker is a fast-paced first person shooter that will pit you against hordes of monsters and push you to your limits. Blast your way through them while racing against the clock to finish the level in one piece.
Game Design
The scoring system in the game revolves around:
- Time taken to finish the level
- Monsters killed
- Damage taken
The goal is to encourage fast, aggressive, and skillful play-style.
There's no recoil or reloading to slow down the action.
Time taken to finish the level constraint encourages the player to play fast, and not pick off monsters one by one from a safe spot.
Monsters killed constraint prevents the player from just rushing to the end of the level and skipping combat. Strategies can be created around it, like prioritizing low HP monsters to get more kills, which is risk/reward decision because low HP monsters are usually low threat while high HP monsters like rocketeers and chargers are higher threat so it's better to spend time to kill them first to stay safe. You have to make meaningful decisions about your play-style and how much risk you think you can handle.
The damage taken constraint comes in to prevent you from just being reckless and soak up tons of damage while picking up lots of health.
You have to dodge as much damage as you can, while taking as much risk as you can, and do it as fast as you can.
If you want to take your time to explore the levels and perhaps search for secrets, you can go to the gameplay settings and disable "Deadline Mode" so you won't have a time limit.
Modding support
- Easy to learn level editor.
- Game editor, easily edit things like monsters and pickups without writing code.
- Powerful scripting. Modify or make your own monsters, weapons, pickups, or something completely new.

Hellbreaker is a fun game, not sure why it didn't got more attention... Looks like it flew under everyone's radar, haha where are those so called "influencers" when you need them ? Non stop fast paced action, put your brain aside and kill everything type of game. Nothing really good though, it could have been better if it was a bit more polished and balanced. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2207917763 I'm getting some QUAKE II vibes with the levels artstyle and ennemies design. The level design is alright nothing groundbreaking tho. The weapons are cool and satisfying with nice gore effects and persistent blood. Graphics are okayish, the game runs on an old version of unity so framedrops are to be expected. For the most parts i played it was smooth in high quality. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2207914761 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2207913808 Main game mode puts you in time limited levels, be fast and get gold medals, silver and so on. It's also possible to play all levels without the pressure of the time limit, giving a more forgiving experience to explore the levels at your own pace and enough time to…8 found this helpful
On paper, "retro" and "mod friendly" can look like some appealing assets. That is, when you don't take time to consider a coherent theme or default maps that are of substance. Instead you got some really barebones levels that can be played in any order, almost all of them seem to have the same hanger-esque design: huge spaces that are mostly empty. bland textures, boring enemy skins and enemy scripting. So yes, on paper "retro" and "mod friendly" sound great, when there's an actual game I feel compelled to see modifications of. But this ain't it. I've been having a lot of optimism in the promise for new mod fanbases for future retro style fps's, but unfortunately there will be some mediocre excuses for insubstantial barebones projects like these. This still looks like the beta version of something that later went on to become good. The only difference is I just paid money for beta part. The cart before there is any horse, or financial incentive to even make the horse at all so I'm just potentially stuck with this empty boring cart.2 found this helpful

Fast paced action similar to Doom and Quake with a level editor included, highly recommended
Old school type shooter. Reminds me of the type of games that I use to play back in the early 90's. Only thing I didn't like about it was the timer but you can shut that off in the options. Otherwise I enjoyed it.
The dev posted a thread about this a few years ago and I picked it up. The movement is fast and fun, and the guns are very satisfying. I had a performance hiccup once in the outdoor level but it got fixed, and thanks to the limited visuals it runs at full blast with 100+ enemies on screen with no issues. Good art direction keeps the game looking nice despite those visuals and there's good variety in how the levels look and play. Chasing gold medals is extremely fun and the game is very straightforward with the criteria for a gold rank, a big plus. If you like Doom, Quake, or UT this game is a great deal for a few afternoon's worth of fun, I'm looking forward to what this developer does next.
