About Hero's Descent

In Hero's Descent, each area you visit has a strict time limit. To make matters worse, a variety of aggressive and devious monsters stand between you and the exit. Will you fight your way through them valiantly, or will you try to run past them before you end up overwhelmed? Decide quickly and carefully, every second counts in Hero's Descent, as the clock never stops ticking!

Fortunately for you, a number of battle-hardened heroes are available and anxious for the opportunity to enter the dungeon. Each hero has unique abilities, strength, and growth potential. Learn them well, push them to their limits, and you just might be able to survive!

KEY FEATURES

  • Three unique characters!
Each character has its own unique set of abilities and playstyle. The dungeon and your growth are tied to the character you select, allowing for a variety of play experiences.
  • Over 20 stages!
Each randomly generated run features over 20 unique stages, each with its own set of traps, enemies, and pitfalls. There are rumors of alternative paths through the ruins as well, and only the most experienced adventurers stand a chance at making it through them alive.
  • Exciting bosses!
You'll encounter a variety of soul-crushingly difficult bosses while exploring the ruins, and each will put your knowledge of the game to the test.
  • Daily Challenges and Leaderboards!
Think you're the best adventurer around? Prove it by competing on the leaderboards! Daily challenges exist for each character as well, forcing players to compete on equal ground with the same randomly-generated dungeon every day.

"Hero's Descent" is a 2D retro pixelcrap (sigh) well-intentioned train wreck of a game... it's a contentless "speedrun" (and... when procgen is used instead of real content, speedrunning becomes meaningless because you can't "learn" the course) "dungeon crawler". Some interesting, but bad ideas, implemented badly. It's easy to see why this was a complete failure even after being converted to a free game. What do you do in the game? It's basically a ripoff of Hack/Rogue but with a time limit that nobody thought would be a good idea to add to Hack/Rogue. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and …

Fantastic game! I love the look and the soundtrack's great. The gameplay seems super basic and easy, except there's time pressure that makes it way too easy to rush and make mistakes. If you go too slow, you don't get rewards and stay weak. If you go too fast, you make mistakes and die. I haven't beaten the second boss yet, but I'm having a lot of fun dying to crappy little rats and slimes because I'm trying to rush faster than my skills allow. Highly, highly recommended. ----------- Edit after playing many more runs: There are quite a few bugs related to the red square that shows up when the enemies are going to attack. Pretty often it just doesn't show up, which will get you killed quite a few times before you memorize when it happens. The ones I know of: when you're standing in a doorframe, when you're standing in a square with bones, and the turn after the time freeze buff wears off. Sometimes you're just going to lose because the random terrain spawns make the level impossible. I've had webs block the path before with a monster on the other side, so if I walk into the web, I'm guaranteed to take more than enough damage to kill me while I'm stuck. I'm also pretty sure I …

It's a really simple and fun game to play, I played very little of it, but that's because each run will take about 3 minutes if you go fast and keep dying like a fool, but yeah, It's hard, it's fun, quite challenging. But, to be honest, my only complaint is that at the 3rd area you have all the reasons to try and not go fast, you just have to go slow, and you still can easily die, just because it has random spawning treeants, ambush spiders and bats, aswell as ghosts and mimic chests, so, even when you think you're safe in a stage, you end up dying, but still, quite fun and fast-paced
