I'll probably play a bit more and update my thoughts, but initially I'm going to not recommend Heroes of Hammerwatch 2. It's just not compelling compared to just about anything else out there that's really worth playing. Unless maybe you seriously want a rogue-lite, fantasy themed, ARPG-esque, pixel graphics game and also town-building mechanics HAVE to be present. Like, if you specifically want ALL of those things together then okay, but otherwise meh. I found myself thinking constantly "Why does this game fail at things that 20+ year old games already figured out?" Playing as mage is horrible. You immediately run out of mana. So you just sit there waiting for your mana to regen before pulling more groups of mobs. Essentially, it literally plays like trying to run a dungeon solo in WOW as a DPS. Which is hell. Why would anyone want a game that plays like that. See Diablo 2 figured this out. Just give the player potions and a belt of potions mapped to keys for easy access. This is genius, because now the player can refill their mana pool consistently, and also because now potion drops are another dopamine hit which the player is getting constantly. Pretty good game, honestly all that needs to be done on steam deck is to go into Options and change your ui scale and the game might as well be steam deck certified. Worth the money.
Play all the characters! It's a fun hop in hop out. You don't have to commit to beating it every run.

for the price, its better then diablo 4. if you like the rogue style gfx and arpg type gameplay then this is for you! i love it
