About Hex Rally Racers
Hex Rally Racers is a 3D arcade racing game for PC where players race on flying brooms through wild twisting and turning tracks, combining ingredients to craft potions to be used against other players. Race through six stunning tracks in a chaotic race against seven other witches, or against three friends at the same time in multiplayer split-screen!
Zooming Broom Racing
Leave the ground behind as you ride on a floating broom, zipping between trees, over rivers, and into the sky. Master the speed of your bouncy, swoopy broom to leave your opponents in the dust! Choose one of four different brooms to best suit your playstyle, and become the master of the track.
Hex Crafting
Each broom has access to a different variety of items to use during the race. While racing, seek out specific ingredients to craft unique spells to use against your foes. Learn your spells and dominate the race!
Fly through three gorgeous worlds over six wild tracks. Zoom through a moonlit forest, dodging trees and leaping over waterfalls, lakes, and rivers. Fly around a mushroom grove, bouncing off giant mushrooms and through lush valleys. Take to the stratosphere and explore a sky city, swooping around windmills, villages, and castles.
Pick one of eight unique witch outfits and one of four custom-designed brooms to race through the world in style!
Grab your broom and fly to the moon For a racer it's ok, somewhat different. Plenty of characters to choose from but they're just a reskin of default one. Tracks are ok, but only 3 to choose from. While racing you pick up elements and toss fireballs, webs, smoke bombs and other shenanigans. Controls are ok and a bit floaty. Hit collision is rather bad, you will clip through huge mushrooms (Mario pun intended) and other forest objects. Music and sounds are ok, nothing to complain r(e)ally. Visual side is ok. Game lack some more polish and content but also have some originality going on. Slight recommendation because it's free and you can drift on your brrrroom.
13 found this helpful
Pretty fun, although being a student game, it's pretty basic as far as content goes. The game looks great, the character models and tracks are all done well. All of the character skins are cute witches, so if that's your thing there you go. The controls are good, although a little floaty, but seeing as how you are riding a magic broom, that makes sense. The enemy AI isn't awful by any means, there is some challenge here. The only real downsides are that while there are a dozen or so characters to choose from, they are all the same as far as stats go. You can change your broom before you start, and that's how you customize your racer, but there are only a few to choose from, so really there are only 3-5 racers technically speaking. There are only a half dozen tracks to choose from as well, so don't expect a grand career mode here. If you are looking for some quick, free racing action, check this one out. I would actually consider firing this one up again at a later date.1 found this helpful
This one has potential if it got polished and reworked in some areas. You bounce way to much like you have bouncy shocks on also.
a really nice game, I wonder why it is free
I understand that this game is likely a student project so I don't think it's a bad game per se. But as a game to play as a consumer, it's not a fun experience. I think the movement in this game is weak, that's the major problem that holds this game back. The drifting is way too strong and hard to control, it takes some time getting used to it but it's too committal. I imagine there isn't supposed to be much emphasis on the drift since it makes you lose all of your speed, it's more like a powerslide for corners. But it feels like a very useless mechanic due to how long it takes to charge. You don't even make up for all of the lost speed most of the time. Races generally feel uneventful against A.I. on larger tracks (Eldermoon Falls) and I imagine it might be more exciting with other players. But the track design is also not that interesting (they feel cool to move through though, like Portbello Pond). The sound design just isn't good. I think the sounds for items, menus, etc are weaks and I don't like the sounds the witches make. I don't like the design of the witches either given the artstyle of everything else. The world looks like The Owl House but the witches look like Shrek a…
Game feels like a proof of concept more then anything really. Visually its great, really cute. Has few interesting ideas, like spell combinations and different brooms allowing different kinds of spells. The thing is, they have little use. NPCs move along less then optimal routes and you can consecutively be at the top with rest of the races half the map behind you after first-second race. Drift is also useless, disadvantageous even, it makes you turn way too sharply for any turn on the tracks and it slows you down very heavily. Many routes or turns are just useless, they only slow you down, offer no rewards for the extra time taken. NPCs also don't interact really with the traps you lay. All spells are homing and they're just really spammy. And as I said, they're useless - NPC barely interact with you or the enviroment, you can go the whole race without using anything and still be 1st. This game would gain very much I think if it had multiplayer and expanded on its mechanics. To place 1st on every race in the game takes barely half an hour. And it's half and hour spent constantly pressing W, occasionally A, D.
