This game changed my life, I'll never be the same again. Every night I lie awake unable to stop this game from consuming my every thought. I wake up in a cold sweat clutching at my arm making sure its still there, the face of the dragon burned into my eyelids. How can I stop this cycle of revenge, how can I use these lessons to fix the world. This might be my destiny. When someone berates me with words of hate I look at them with pity, they don't see the world as I do. They don't understand that they are slaves to a cycle that eats away at our very souls. I must cure them. I must free them. I must be their saviour. I must be their Hopeguard.

Hopeguard is a concise third-person fantasy adventure that takes a familiar tale of knights and dragons and reshapes it into something more thoughtful and emotionally driven. Developed by Hopesquad Studio and published by UQAT - Création et nouveaux médias, the game places you in the armor of a warrior belonging to the Hopeguard, an order whose generations-long purpose has been the destruction of dragons. With almost every dragon gone, only the Dragon Queen remains, seemingly leaving one final mission between the protagonist and the completion of that ancient crusade. What begins as a conventional heroic assignment soon challenges the assumptions behind the conflict and gives the adventure a surprisingly melancholic identity. The strongest aspect of Hopeguard is the way it handles its premise. The Dragon Queen is not simply presented as another enormous fantasy creature that exists to provide a climactic battle. As the last survivor of her species, her circumstances immediately complicate the idea that eliminating her is unquestionably heroic. Decent puzzles and ok plot. I enjoyed the art direction when unreal wasn't stuttering up a storm. Worth it for the price of free and the low playtime!

Hopeguard has got good background music and an overall nice ambience, but there are too many bugs for me to enjoy the game. During my first playthrough, the first cutscene appeared to be a black screen. I didn't know there was an animation since it was my first time playing, so I thought it was purely narration. I later reached the healing tree and triggered another cutscene, but the cutscene never ended and I was there looking at the tree and there was nothing I could do. I had to restart the game. The game doesn't save my progress so honestly I was a little annoyed. Everything went smoothly until the moment when I tried to climb and retrieve my shield. I was kind of spamming the E key and then the knight just kind of got frozen there. The game broke just because I spammed E... You can't really blame me though, the game was lagging for the entire time, and I had even lowered every settings to the lowest. Also, the narration sounds sleepy.

A basic little fairytale like story with a cool idea at it's core. What if your hero was disabled and that affected gameplay. I really like the concepts here and it was an enjoyable hours of messing about. Hope to see these devs bring their ideas to bigger games in the future.

Hopeguard is a good Dark Fantasy, puzzle game and it's brought to you by the same Studio that has brought games like shadow burglar and all abug, okay now the story. In a kingdom far, far away a deadly scourge of dragons have plagued the land many have lost their lives and many of village has been burned, but the King has created the Hopeguard a group of knights dedicated to slaying all the dragons. It has been successful but there is still one dragon left, so a hopeguard is sent out to slay the last dragon and bring their head to the king, but soon this hopeguard will fail and perhaps he will rise a new after that. Now then the likes, the story is good it's just a simple knight is sent out to slay a dragon, has an existential crisis and learn something, it's been done before but here it's done pretty well for such a short game. I also like the themes of overcoming adversity, learning to be a better person and question authority, those are some good themes. The gameplay is good it starts off pretty simple you have a sword and shield and you use your sword to cut and slash your way to the dragon, but after you lose your sword arm you have to come up with new ways to get back to th…
