✦ AI summary

Hoser Hockey is a charming indie hockey game with hand-drawn visuals and smooth skating mechanics that appeals to players looking for straightforward arcade-style gameplay, though it struggles with significant technical issues and poor AI balance. Common complaints include input problems in menus, heavily overpowered AI opponents that are nearly unbeatable, lack of offline single-player viability, occasional freezing, and unclear game mechanics like face-off rules. Despite being genuinely made with good intentions and offering features like custom teams and tournaments, the game falls short of

Hoser Hockey is a console-esque 2D top down hand drawn Canadian ice hockey game with arcadey team based gameplay. Think FIFA 2024, but with much worse graphics, limited gameplay, ice hockey instead of soccer, and launched on PC instead of consoles by mistake, and you have Hoser Hockey. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game is comprised of somewhat mediocre hand drawn 2D illustrations instead of professional looking 3D game assets. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create 3D graphical assets properly, or lack of talent. Regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is very low, beneath what PC gamers have come to expect in this era of cutting edge photorealistic 3D graphics. At least it's not pixel "art", but if you're look…

It looks fun, but I could never get a game started because it needed a name for every new game. But no input, controller or keyboard, would work. All I could do was bounce around the menus.

Do not get this game if you do not intend to play PVP online. The game AI is OP in the weirdest ways. You cannot win faceoffs against the AI. The AI knocks you down with a single check hit, but it takes you multiple to get them to lose the puck, and even when you do get them to lose the puck 9/10 times it winds up at another AI player. Really not fun. Do not recommend.

I am only starting, but I see nice graphic, players are moveing like on ice (they are skateing), so you can play in very unconvecional weys (pases, fances,...), I see very big sport game to play hours and hours (1000,...).

Nice game for the price tag. Fun art, nice that you can create your own teams and your own tournaments, even if hosting only very limited options and designs. Gameplay is basic but still smooth and enjoyable. I like how this game is free from fist fights, instead focusing on the real hockey of skating, passing and shooting. A little rough on the edges here and there, such as it seems not to be playable against AI without access to internet, menu screens sometimes bug or freeze, you can't alter the arena design (always the same desolate abandoned rink in the wilderness). Plus there are no instructions anywhere as to how you actually win a Face Off.. Overall though a very enjoyable little game.
