The ultimate digital zen garden and the absolute best game to play while doing your laundry. Hot Springs Story is a masterclass in cozy, low-stress simulation. Running a traditional Japanese onsen should theoretically be a stressful job of managing finances, appeasing demanding VIP guests, and optimizing room layouts. Yet, Kairosoft somehow managed to distill all of that into an incredibly relaxing, soothing pixel-art experience. There is something deeply therapeutic about watching your tiny, pixelated guests wander around in their yukatas, grabbing a bowl of ramen, and then soaking in the outdoor baths surrounded by perfectly placed bamboo and blooming cherry blossoms. It captures a specific type of tranquility that very few management games ever achieve. The absolute best feature of this game, however, is its pacing. Unlike modern live-service games that demand your constant, undivided attention or strategy games that punish you the second you look away, Hot Springs Story practically encourages you to step back. It is the undisputed king of "idle background gaming." You can set up a few new rooms, optimize your garden scenery, and then comfortably walk away to wash your undie…

Very calming

Another Kairosoft game down and I kinda just felt bored playing this. I mean god do you need a fast foward button for these Kairosoft games because they just take so so sooooo long to get to the next level in things. Good music as always but man was this a slog that honestly just works well on Mobile not PC.

very fun

I used to love this game on my phone as a kid - now I can play it on desktop and the nostalgia is REAL. The music is such a bop, never gets old. The game itself is a lovely, addictive management sim, a great time waster, easy to grasp and play. The graphics are adorable and the progression is pretty good once you understand how it all works. The only complaint I would have is not being able to move buildings, you kinda have to delete them and rebuild (no refund back either) - but that's okay, that's the charm of an older game. Love it heaps, would definitely recommend to people that love addictive management sims with cute graphics and music!

Hot Springs Story has a fun concept, but the slow progression makes it a bit tedious. It’s the kind of game you leave running in the background, but frequent pop-ups make that difficult. After 10 hours, I had only unlocked one achievement, which feels unusually slow for a Kairosoft game. The pacing makes it hard to stay engaged.
