About House of Velez part 1

BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS GAME- HOUSE OF VELEZ REQUIRES A CONTROLLER TO PLAY. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CONTROLLER THE GAME WILL NOT WORK. XBOX LAYOUT PREFERRED.

Lily Velez, daughter of famous archaeologist Victor Velez, returns home to her family's estate following news of her father's sudden disappearance. Intent on finding clues to her missing father's whereabouts, and evidence to prove his innocents involving a scandal within his company, Lily begins her search. However, she is about to uncover something that will take her far beyond her own investigation. Something that will force her to fight for her very survival. Follow Lily into her own worst nightmare as she uncovers the dark and sadistic history that lies within the walls of the House of Velez.

House of Velez is a horror game based around stealth/puzzle elements. It emphasizes sneaking, running and hiding mechanics to surpass obstacles rather than combat.

The game features a "Focus Mode" that allows you to see your pursuers' field of vision and hearing radius, while also monitoring your own noise levels.

Another feature is "Heart Rate Suppression" that restricts movement, but allows you to become "invisible" when used effectively.

House of Velez draws inspiration from titles like Haunting Ground and even film such as the 1980's Hellraiser.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this horror game for its distinctive visual style reminiscent of 90s media, atmospheric storytelling, and excellent voice acting and writing that creates genuine dread. However, some note significant technical issues including game-breaking bugs and performance problems on high-end PCs with high refresh rates, though the game reportedly runs better on Steam Deck, and the experience is relatively short since it's part 1 of a series.

Quite short, about 1h of gameplay, but nice for for a single developer. Captured the horror aspects pretty well and has interesting character concepts.

A side scroller survival horror/puzzle horror game with charming dated visual style that is certainly unique. The way it plays with its models and backdrops looking like they came from a way better version of the ren'py engine was only the second most interesting thing about it to me followed by the fact it is by far the most goriest game I have ever played on steam. Seriously this ♥♥♥♥ feels like Guro or whatever the term is for that kind of content, to the point where its humerous to think about the idea that there are possibly more variations for character death in animation then there is potentially playtime to the game if you speedrun it well enough. However with the very tough stealth sequences with tricky button placement on your NECESSARY controller with in game dialogue that has to be sat through every death are a little grating making the gameplay not entirely perfect, its challenging but not in the best way imo. I wouldn't let that deter you from trying the game though if you are okay with uncomfortably explicit death scenes and thematically morbid content overall. Its a neat little experience for an october night for sure. Hoping that the hellraiser game that comes out…
