What do I do in Hyperspace Dogfights?
Mainly you fly a jet in a 2d environment and blow things up. You'll also complete randomized goals in order to finish individual waves. In-between waves you'll buy items that modify your jet in various ways. Zones end with random boss encounters. Difficulty is pretty harsh, you'll probably die a lot in the beginning. But each subsequent run will play out a little different. Throughout the game you'll unlock additional items to find on later runs. The game is fairly light on story, but you can piece together a narrative from item descriptions and combat chatter if you choose so.
- Juicy, impact-full and tense 2d air combat, framed in a weird sci-fi universe
- 5+ player jets to fly, all coming with 2 alternate starting loadouts to unlock
- 200+ different passive items, some providing simple bonuses, some completely changing how your jet behaves
- More then 90 sci-fi jet weapons, including beam weapons, explosives and aerial melee options
- 50 active items used for offense, defense or utility
- Strong focus on synergies and weird jet builds. Most items will interact with others, be it in positive and negative ways. All passives can stack with themselves.
- 7 zones with distinct enemy composition to explore
- 10 bosses to die against
- Various wave goals: Hunt ace pilots, strafe ground targets, perform recon scans and more
- 12 late game challenge modes that can be freely combined with another
- Colorful pixel art, powered by the Pico8 palette
- An adaptive soundtrack with combat and menu tracks, consisting of 14 tunes by ENUIT and Ole Toensen (available as dlc)
- Persistent unlocks with lots of items in the loot pool from the get go, but some things only unlockable through the endgame
- Finished runs can seamlessly transition into endless mode if you choose so
- Steam cloud save, cross platform
We did a year long alpha but there is still the possibility that some things slipped through the cracks. Please report your findings in the steam forum or contact me on twitter or through the games' discord channel and I'll look into it.
Thanks!

Hyperspace dogfights is a hidden gem that roguelike enjoyers will love. In fact I recommend all of the games made by sleeper games so far!2 found this helpful
Really, seriously fun. Got it for a song. I was sold by the tagline of "Luftrausers but as a Rouge-like campaign", and while that is an accurate description it's worth noting that this game executes that about as well as I imagine it could be. Considering this just kind of randomly caught my eye it is criminally underrated and deserves another recommend.1 found this helpful
TL;DR: This game is amazing, and one of the best games I have ever played on keyboard. It's responsive, difficult and engaging, performs great, and it's one of the best purchases in my library. Hyperspace Dogfights feels like a pinnacle of its genre. I bought it because I was a huge fan of the Hyperspace Anthology, and deeply respect the developer, Stefan Widany (creator of not only many good game jam games, but also the first big mod for FTL: Faster Than Light, called "Captain's Edition"). I made the call to buy the Crew Edition from the start, and it was a good idea to do so. It takes the best lessons from all the games released at the time, and combines them with hilarious writing and flashy effects to keep you coming back every time.
Non-spoiler praise
Hdogs brings something to the table that you don't see much outside of games like Titanfall: Complete skill expression. The movement system is built in such a way that you can always push your jet just a little further, jump a little bit later, strafe in a different direction while shooting, put one more bullet into the enemy. Your reaction speed and finger precision are the limit. Said movement is controlled …1 found this helpful
I'm older, I've never been into overly twitchy/fast-paced games, and "bullet hell" is always a turnoff for me. I've always liked more medium-paced, physics-based games. If you're like me, hold up a sec and check this out. Hyperspace Dogfights is a fantastic game, like a more physics-based, Finnish-style cave-flyer Time Pilot.* — DETAILED GAME SUMMARY (Skip if you just want the bottom line) — The main gameplay loop is flying around a super-fighter with some sort of randomized weapon loadout, fighting never-ending waves of enemy fighters, bombers, gunships, tanks, boats, AA gun emplacements, etc. Each enemy killed gives you credits you can spend on upgrades. In each level, you have a definite mission to complete, and once it's completed you can either leave right away, or stick around to blow more enemies up to earn more credits. The difficulty in each level grows over time, so the reward/risk ratio increases. There's always a pull to stick around to earn enough points to stay ahead of the curve. Once you've completed a level, you go to an intermission screen where a (usually unrevealed) upgrade is offered for a certain amount of points -- a different gun you can switch ba…1 found this helpful
I AM A DOG OF WAR Hyperspace Dogfights shows that bigger and more popular does not equal better by being one of the most fun, unique and well designed roguelikes ive played in a very long time, everything down to the sound design and upgrade choice are nigh-perfect and i only yearn for more. Praying for a DLC, Sequel, Spiritual Successor or just anything thats more Hyperspace Dogfights in the future.
Big fan of Hyperspace Deck command so I had to check this out. It is a bit rough around the edges, I think understandably since it was the dev's first game published on Steam, but there still is a lot I like here. The kinetic action and sound design is on point here, everything feels impactful and cronchy. The action is super fast and engaging, lot's of upgrades, weapons and unlocks to keep the gameplay fresh. I can see myself sinking a lot of time into this. My two main complaints are:

The clouds look absolutely ugly, wish I could just turn them off, because they are constantly in my vision. I think the graphics and aesthetics generally work well, but just this one element is bugging me.
I couldn't get my controller to be recognized. Not such a big deal, I can play with mouse+keyboard just fine, but controller would be my preference.
I wish Sleeper Games was more popular so that the dev could spend some extra time on polishing and QoL, there's really something special in each of them. I'll be doing my part, I am now 100% a Sleeper Games fan and will get all of them eventually.
