I Am - a story of awakenings

I Am: A Story of Awakenings is a strange little first person action adventure that I ended up enjoying more than I expected. I wake up without any memory of who I am and quickly meet a mysterious character who claims to have set me free. From there, the game drops me into a bizarre world filled with dangerous guards, strange technology and a conspiracy that I gradually have to understand. I liked the mystery because the story gives me enough information to stay curious without explaining everything immediately. The gameplay mixes several ideas together rather than focusing entirely on shooting. I can sneak around, solve puzzles, interact with objects, talk to characters and fight enemies using weapons I find along the way. I enjoyed this variety because it keeps the adventure from feeling like a completely straightforward shooter. There is also a nice amount of physics based interaction, which makes some situations feel less predictable than they otherwise would. Combat itself is fairly simple, but I liked the way the game encourages me to use the environment and enemy weapons. The guards can be dangerous, so rushing directly into every encounter is not always the smartest choice…
