Isekai'd is a shoot-em-up inspired by Dodonpachi that impresses players with its catchy soundtrack, satisfying particle effects, varied ship types, and solid difficulty curve that works for both beginners and veterans. Most players praise the engaging gameplay, anime visuals, and fun multiplayer experience, though some mention the confusing premise doesn't quite deliver on the isekai genre concept, occasional visual confusion between enemy and player projectiles, and technical issues with Steam Deck compatibility.
First thing that kind of stuck out for me was the title. A little confusing since Isekai is not a verb, but rather a genre of fiction. Usually where a normal person is sent to a wild type of world completely out of their element where they have to survive. For those not familiar with this genre, think of stuff like Tron, Sword Romance Online, Brutal Legend, etc... That's basically what Isekai is. So when I first tried the game out I kind of expected something like that. It's an easy enough trope to translate to a game. Right? Well maybe not for this developer. When you start out the story mode of Isekai'd you meet our "hero" who appears to be I think a game developer, or tester, or something. He is given a game to try out, a shoot 'em up. And then he starts playing the game, and as such, so do you. So wait, this is it? This is the Isekai? No accident sending him into the game? A portal maybe? Anything? Nope. He just starts playing the game, and that's it. Basically if the hook of this game was for a cool Isekai story, you're going to be left disappointed. When you start the game it does not even appear as if you are playing as the person introduced in the beginning. You just pi…20 found this helpful
Jumping straight into the gameplay you notice its a bit dodonpachi inspired with its hyper mechanic, hit counter and collecting stars. The game has about 8 stages with suitable difficulties for beginners and veterans. As you can tell, the game's story is mostly about being put into another world where you are now in a shmup. The anime style fits quite well with it and the guitar music throughout the stages is pretty awesome. I will say that I originally didn’t like the vibe of the game, I don't know what it is but I couldn’t get into it as much as I’d like. Nonetheless, I still gave it a triple try. The game offers 4 different ship types. You have your main straight shot with good speed, wide shot with slower speed, and your special shot types with your shot facing the direction you might be going in or a shot type with different advantages in shielding. The core mechanics of the game offer a hyper that can only be used when focused and you cannot unfocus to move around when activated. I’m assuming the devs wanted you to commit when you are using hyper. You can also use bombs to clear a wave or when you are in a sticky situation. I would be careful though, the bombs don't give you…13 found this helpful
It plays great, music is catchy. Reminds me a little bit of Dodonpachi. Definitely going to play it more often.6 found this helpful
It's been a while since I didnt play a shmup and I really enjoyed playing this one. It got me right back into this genre and now I'm asking for more. Great visuals with really satisfying particles with all of the stars you collect. Great soundtrack too, especially the final boss' one. The game is pretty hard but gives you enough tools to make your way out. Only downside would be that depending on your character, some ennemies projectiles looks like yours, and I've been killed a few times because of that. Multiplayer is also great, I played with 3 of my friends who don't really play this kind of game and we had a great time.3 found this helpful
