As a game it's just not very good. Career missions are autogenerated and suck so much. I can't imagine anyone playtested this. Like, you'll get a mission, intercept recon plane or some such. OK, great. The recon plane is flying at 5k and you start on the ground in a Lagg3 or Yak1. There ain't no way you are catching up to that plane, and will just be chasing it for an hour before you give up. It's just so frustrating, but hey, at least in this mission you had something to do. In other missions that are generated you just escort some bombers for an hour without ANYTHING HAPPENING. And this is not a one-time thing, it happens all the time. There is time acceleration so you can fast forward and hope for some action, but it maxes out at 8x which is paaaiinnnfffulllyyy slow. Even with 8x you're still sitting in front of your screen for half an hour hoping something will happen. And you better hope that the autopilot doesn't crash into a friendly plane, which happens way too often. It's just such a MASSIVE waste of time.3 found this helpful

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad is a visually stunning flight simulator with incredible physics, but it ultimately fails to capture the sheer scale, freedom, and endless replayability that made IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 the undisputed king of the series. What It Gets Right: The Modern Upgrades Phenomenal Flight Models: The physics, aerodynamic feedback, and engine management feel vastly more sophisticated and realistic than the 2006 engine of 1946. Gorgeous Visuals & VR: The graphics, lighting, weather effects, and damage modeling are top-tier. Flying it in VR provides unmatched immersion. Excellent Multiplayer: Dogfights and organized historical server matches are incredibly stable and satisfying. Where It Fails: The "1946" Comparison Abysmal Content Scope: 1946 gives you access to thousands of flyable aircraft and global theaters (Pacific, Western Front, Eastern Front) right out of the box. Stalingrad ships with a tiny fraction of that, locking further maps and planes behind expensive DLC packages. Lackluster Single-Player: The dynamic campaign engine in Stalingrad feels sterile, repetitive, and heavily scripted. It completely lacks the soul, massive scale, and career depth fou…
Seems pretty good. Very difficult but still entertaining. Would be even better if I wasn't using a Saitek yoke to fly fighter aircraft.
