Impulsion

Impulsion is one of those more difficult games to review because it does some things pretty well... and others not so great. It's made even harder because it's also ancient... this is 8 years old, and worse, the developers haven't maintained it... not a single patch in over 7 years. This is a Portal-esque first person 3D platformer, and yeah, you're in a lab with a robot voice telling you what to do... and one of the first things you'll notice is how poor and lulzy the voice acting and general plot are. At least Portal had fun with it. Where this also differs from Portal is it's more speedrun/action orientated, so you'll basically work out how to negotiate the level, then re-run it as fast as you can if you want to get on the leaderboard. Dispersing with the Portal gimmick, this one carries two guns; one gun shoots a "jump pad" blue sphere that lets you jump higher... absolutely needed for some of the platformer challenges. The other red gun slows down things... which you'll need as many levels have projectiles and stuff coming at you, which will result in a lot of die-and-retry gameplay... that gets tiresome. There's also some issues with polish... sure, the game runs smoot…

Some of the platforming is fun, but thats like 10% of the game, the other 90% is dying to somthing that doesnt feel like your fault. And in a game where you should be trying to get better times on levels, it does a really bad job at making the player want to replay a level. The grading system is too easy, i was getting horrible times on levels and getting a B rank, and the narrorator makes every death even more annoying. Theres also almost no skill expression, the differnce between a record run on a level and your first time beating it really isnt huge. also the writing and voice acting is really bad.

Great little FPS speedrunning game with fun mechanics. Story and music are not particularly memorable, but they add a little distraction rather than just nothing going on while you pass the levels. The difficulty and challenges introduced in each new level are steadily increased and get you thinking without becoming impossible to complete. Well worth a purchase, especially when on sale, not too tough to get all achievements too!

very fun casual game. if you loved portal i recommend this game to you.

fun game but it can get a little tough if you are not used to games like this.
