Backstory

50 years have passed since the megacorporation OMICRONIX discovered a new technology that could send ships to distant stars in an instant. This FTL Engine was called The Crimson Drive. For decades, OMICRONIX recruited the hopeful and the destitute, launching them into the darkest parts of space to mine asteroids and distant planets.

One By One they All Went Dark.

Powered by unexplained and misunderstood forces, extended operation of the Crimson Drives shattered the boundaries of our dimension, creating a gateway to horror on each ship that used it. The things that crossed over have infested the now-derelict crafts, melding them into nests and hives. While the former crew members and their families are now gone, the dangers of these rifts still remain.

Desperate to reclaim the data recorded during these events, OMICRONIX now tasks their downtrodden workforce with returning to these craft, shutting down the dimensional rifts, and returning with the drive’s Crimson Cores for study.

It’s not easy, and it’s not safe. But someone has to do it…

InfestStation turns out to be quite an ambitious take on the SciFi Co-op Survival Horror genre running on the most recent Unreal Engine (5.4) featuring cutting edge visuals and sound effects. The game offers plenty of graphical customization allowing players to tweak the game's performance according to their systems' processing power. Procedural generation is used to keep the level/mission design dynamic with everything properly replicated across the network. Hosting and Joining Multiplayer Sessions is a simple single click affair with the game menu visuals and soundscapes nicely complementing the moody horror atmosphere and lore of the game. InfestStation appears to be a true gem in this sub genre and I am looking forward to witness how far the Devs will take it in the coming future.

I'm having a lot of fun playing this with friends. I haven't tried the game solo yet, but the experience with 3-4 people has been really entertaining. The ship is procedurally generated, so no two missions are exactly the same. We've also encountered a pretty wide array of monsters, some which are easy to kill and some that force us to run and find alternative routes (or weapons. Seriously, the flamethrower is busted). The updates that have been coming out are also nice, especially the updates to the map. It has become much easier to find one another if we get lost exploring the ship, since it's pretty critical to stay together when possible to beat the mission. The game is in early access, so there are understandably features missing (a level-up system would be especially cool), but for the price it is definitely worth it in its current state. The multiple missions, monsters, and changing ship layouts make the replayability there in the meantime. I'd highly recommend this. My friends and I laughed when we first discovered traps that exploded and killed us immediately, and there are legitimately scary moments when you open a door to a grotesque monster that is hard to kill. You should not use Early Access solely to fund development. If you are counting on selling a specific number of units to complete your game, then you need to think carefully about what it would mean for you or your team if you don't sell that many units. This game is truly one of a kind; I've been on the search for a procedurally generated derelict space game due to my adoration of the dead space franchise. It saddens me that the devs ran out of funds, because this is a game i think I could truly get behind! The game in its current state is rough, and leaves a lot to be desired; but it had loads of potential! even in its current state, my biggest gripe is the performance which is highly unoptimized. HOWEVER. I did find that i was able to get pretty decent performance with editing some settings! It was a little janky, but i figured it out! Good luck to you devs! I hope you guys get to move on to bigger and better things! It's too bad you guys ran out of funds :(
