Inspector Waffles Early Days

A prequel to Inspector Waffles made with GB studio, the writing is still great, some puzzles are harder, but still fun. My only issues are a crash and the controls stopped working a couple times.

Interesting prequel to Inspector Waffles. This game is in the style of a Game Boy, Waffles questions suspects and gains clues. For each case there are four pieces of information to work out. There's also a hidden storyline that I missed the first playthrough with some cunning puzzles. Looking forward to more of Waffles' adventures!

I liked the first game more but this is still charming. Would have been more fun to actually play it on a game boy color ngl

Interrogating suspects, cross-referencing clues, and wrapping up with a final case report create a satisfying investigative loop. The puzzles are straightforward enough to keep the story flowing, while optional “Mad Catter” challenges add extra difficulty and reward sharp exploration skills. Clues even carry over between cases, making progress feel interconnected. Presented in a lovingly authentic Game Boy Color style, the game embraces chunky 8-bit visuals and chiptune audio. The developers even made it possible to run on real GBC hardware, which adds a special touch of nostalgia for longtime players. Fans of the original Inspector Waffles will feel right at home wandering the animal-inhabited city again, though they’ll need to accept the deliberate “tech regression” in presentation. For newcomers, this prequel is a light, engaging entry point into the world of Waffles - compact and refreshingly different.

Inspector Waffles: Early Days has all the charm of a classic GBA game, with fun storytelling and puzzles geared towards the detective/old-school format as well as [spoiler] some hidden ones that feel authentic to pixel games of the past [/spoiler] While not difficult, the game play presents surmountable challenges in a fun way - making this a great choice for younger players or a cozy nostalgia-filled afternoon. I greatly look forward to the next installment in the series! A note for players who don't like repeat-play, make sure you take care of the [spoiler] label-related side quest in chapter 1 [/spoiler] otherwise you may get locked out of the [spoiler] secret side quest story line that builds from case to case [/spoiler]. Be aware: if you leave a case in the middle, you'll need to replay from the beginning of that case! (Speed-running to your stopping point won't be too punishing though)
