Island Getaway - DEMO

I don't know how the developer created this and said "Yeah, this is good for a demo". Only good thing is the atmosphere. The game starts with you receiving a letter from a company offering a free vacation with all expenses covered. Right after that, you are thrown into a rowboat, surrounded by 2 sharks. You have to swim to the shore. Like make it make sense. Shouldn't the company offer transportation or any reason we are in a rowboat in the first place? That is as far as the story goes. Now to the gameplay, the initial sequence of using a rowboat to reach the shore is just boring considering you will be doing that for 10 minutes. Once you reach the shore, you sleep and next day you travel further to see a farm burning and chased by kids wearing masks who are attacking you. Why? You can't kill them but they can kill you. Your only weapon is a briefcase that stuns the kid for 10 seconds before they get up and start attacking. And that is it. Like what was even the point of this demo. If anything, it showed me that I should stay away from this garbage and other stuff this developer has a hand in it. Genuinely, I am angry at the dev for creating this mess. Love the creepy vibes and strange dystopia landscape. It drops you right into a dinky boat where you soon have to dodge and evade a shark. The shark isn't too difficult to maneuver around, but wait until you get to the Children! They are terrifying as they laugh and try to hit you with rocks and knives. Absolutely unnerving. There are moments in the middle where you aren't actively evading attackers and get to take in the eerie landscape; burning buildings, corporate goons, and bleating sheep. Throughout the game is some excellent sound design. There is a building dissonant soundtrack that very slowly builds as you play. Can't wait to find out what other elements are at play on the island.

Island Getaway DEMO immediately gave me the feeling that something was going to go very wrong. I arrive at what should be a relaxing island resort after winning a free weekend vacation, only to find myself caught between natural dangers, supernatural threats and powerful corporate forces. I liked the setup because it starts from something familiar and slowly turns it into a much more unsettling situation. The gameplay is focused on exploration and survival rather than giving me traditional weapons or special abilities. I have to move through the environment, pay attention to what is happening around me and figure out how to survive using whatever I can find. I liked this approach because it makes the character feel vulnerable. I cannot simply fight my way out whenever something becomes dangerous. The suitcase is a particularly fun detail. Since it is effectively the main thing I have to work with, even ordinary exploration feels different from a typical horror game where I am constantly collecting guns and ammunition. While this is not a ripoff like how some of the reviews are putting it, this game makes me wonder did the dev even playtest this game with other people? The game is roughly 13 minutes long and the 10 of those minutes are spent in the beginning where you're rowing your boat to the titular Island Getaway, with the 3 minutes left showing some half baked Light House, A24 imagery followed by a kid killing me with my only means of attack being limply throwing my briefcase at them. I can see a lot of potential here, a horror game with pixelated gloomy watercolor look could be something really interesting and lends itself well to either a darkly comedic game like Bucket Detective or incredibly dark experience like Mouthwashing or Lost in Vivo. However, as it stands, it's just babies first attempt at a traditional horror game made by someone who's only previous game was a Garfield themed horror experience on itch.io.

i mean it was ok...but not really scary but i did turn it down but further in the game i relized its trash but a little bit fun
