About Japanese Romaji Adventure
An RPG in which you learn Japanese using romaji characters i.e. English letters.
In a matter of hours you could be speaking Japanese. For those already learning Japanese it is a valued study addition.
In this game you can practice and learn over 600 words along with some basic grammar.
It is set in the 1800's and is an epic adventure that will teach you about Japanese history and the language.
What is it about?
Join Harry and his crew who are among the first westerners to set foot on Japan after the prolonged period of isolation.
Set during the Meji period -- a considerably important time in Japanese history.
- Face enemies and make friends along the way as you battle, quest, quiz and learn your way to victory!
- All quizzes and quests can be done an infinite amount of time to consolidate learning.
- Language skills include: Intro, greetings, colours and numbers, prepositions, time, direction basic grammar.
- The game has mini-quests and mini-games and additionally there is a battle component.
What can you learn?
My ultimate goal was to make this game suitable for teaching the entire 700 words of Japanese N5. It teaches 600+ words and I am happy with the completed project. It is ideal for students and/or Japan fanatics!

so far, no. game is simple and slow paced without lessons, just trial and error question. I have progressed as far as I have on my own 少し understanding. I'll update this later as I progress, assuming I remember.4 found this helpful
can't finish this game because of a bug and the exe files for DLCs are missing. So the full game is unplayable.4 found this helpful
A bug has prevented me from continuing this game beyond the first island. I've tried restarting from scratch but ran into the same problem again. A few enemies in the are threaten my party but then just vanish withouth triggering their fights. As a result, the shogun asks me to remove the bandits in the area (but they're no longer there), when she should allow me to continue east. As a result, I can only play a fraction of the game. Also didn't see an option to display the text in Kana despite having that DLC. Finally, support is non-existent. Devs do not respond on Steam boards. Their website is down and so is their Discord (despite the game itself having a link thereto). I'm surprised to learn they're now re-releasing this as a 3D version. I'll be sure to avoid that.3 found this helpful

The thing that's always tripped me up learning Japanese is the writing systems--with this, learning the language, the words, the grammar rendered in a way that is fun and that I can actually read, I'm picking it up much better. And then, since I understand the language better, my efforts to learn the writing systems by other means are going better too! It's also a cute, classic little rpg. I keep getting lost in the plot and forgetting what I'm supposed t be doing but tbh that's a me problem.1 found this helpful
It's a fun way of learning Japanese, even though the game itself has some moments where it not clear what you need to do or where you need to go. But given that's it's primary focus is to teach Japanese, I'd say it's well worth the price.
