Kuon Makami (Voice: Hanami Takanashi)
A girl who lives in a mountain shrine, secluded from the mortal world. Cheerful, straightforward, and pure of heart, she hasn’t encountered another human being since her mother died, which has left her remarkably naive.
Luckily, she’s also a demigod, sired by the deity Makami-no-Okami, and trained in swordsmanship and other arts by her mother, an exorcist miko. Although a newcomer to the realm of exorcism, her bloodline lends her impressive potential—if she can only learn to harness it.
SUMMARY
In a quiet forest, far from any settlement, there lives a girl named Kuon Makami.
Having lost her mother not long ago, she spends her days alone with the wolf pup who is her best friend.
But the peaceful times come to an end when a strange pall falls over the forest, bringing with it occasional incursions of dark spirits.
Determined to find the source of the problem and stop it, Kuon begins training as an exorcist shrine maiden and sets out to brave whatever dangers lie within the depths of the woods...

"Miko girl with animal ears, who is profaned by yokai and various creatures, a classic."
Review
A game with a fairly basic and classic story that has already been seen in even past installments of the same developer "Debonosu Works", as it is a Miko girl who must fight/exorcise different yokai, in order to prevent them from causing a calamity. In this particular title, the priestess is a semi-human, a mix between a human and a fox god, so she has a human appearance but with a fox tail and fox ears. The story does not go beyond knowing a little of the past of the parents of the protagonist through other characters that you meet or through visions, so this section is really secondary. The main attraction of the game is its gameplay, which consists of a kind of dungeon crawler with aerial view and some RPG and roguelike elements to give it randomness and replayability. The game has 3 main dungeons, which are divided into a certain amount of floors that you must overcome in order to progress in the story, most floors are infested with yokai which you have to defeat or capture and a last floor with a boss, which is a larger version of a yokai, with more life and attac…14 found this helpful

The gameplay is solid and feels like playing Chocobo's Dungeon or any similar game since it features the standard elements of the genre, such as randomized dungeons, myriads of items and equipment to loot, upgradeable weapons and armor, while also adding a summoning system and a hunger system to give it a unique touch. Moreover, it allows you to change the difficulty in case the game becomes too hard for you (plot twist: it will) or you want to make it even harder. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3147797244 The character's sprites, backgrounds, and CGs are nicely drawn, t…2 found this helpful
Probably the best entry to try the Kagura series among the games available in English. For better or worse it still barely has any story and has the same gameplay aside from some minor QoL improvements here and there, but this game has an advantage of putting more effort into its presentation, characters, world, and motivation. The heroine has a slightly more clear goal to begin her journey, she has a somewhat strong connection with one side character, and you also unlock side stories by finding them in dungeons (it's even easier than unlocking h). The latter is arguably the most important part because these scenes are the main thing that provides you with more details about characters and the world like I mentioned earlier. It can be something from the heroine's past, a heart-warming SoL scene, a training scene, etc. And while these scenes are short, all of them have a unique CG which is another nice addition. This is like ~10 non-h illustrations compared to the Dawn of Kagura series (aka Kagura Reimeiki) which tends to have only 1 non-h CG per game. Overall, it's not much, but it's still an improvement over other shorter games from the same developer, at least. If you want, you…1 found this helpful
Kagura Genesis: Kuon's Story, developed by Debonosu Works and published by Shiravune, is a roguelike turn-based RPG that blends shrine maiden folklore, dungeon crawling, and anime-style storytelling into a compact but replayable experience. Positioned as a hybrid between traditional JRPG structure and randomized roguelike progression, the game centers on Kuon Makami, a young demigod who takes on the role of protector and exorcist when a creeping corruption spreads through the forest surrounding her shrine. The narrative premise is straightforward but effective. Kuon lives in relative isolation after her mother’s passing, maintaining the shrine alongside her loyal wolf companion. When malevolent spirits begin invading the forest and disturbing the balance of the land, she is forced to confront threats far beyond her previous peaceful routine. The story unfolds gradually through dialogue sequences and illustrated CG scenes, offering character-focused moments rather than sprawling political intrigue. While the plot does not attempt to deliver epic-scale complexity, it maintains emotional grounding through Kuon’s innocence, determination, and gradual growth as she faces increasingly d…
