This game has fantastic gameplay, but I would never recommend it, even to the target audience, because the UI is that ugly and hard to look at.
This game was a genuine surprise for me, I have to admit...
Normally, this genre of games doesn't really appeal to me, but there was something charming about this particular title and I wasn't disappointed. The game is a seemingly simple, score-attack action game with some mildly interesting visuals, barely any story worth mentioning, and a rogue-lite type progression system. However, the secret sauce lies in the mechanics and the execution. While the overall experience can seem spartan and rudimentary at first, the combat is surprisingly fluent and fast-paced. Movement feels good and the weapons are responsive and swift. The attacks pack a punch and you rarely feel like the game is being overly unfair. There is a strikingly good balance between melee and ranged weapons that constantly overlap each other in the brutal battle for survival. There is only a few levels (five per difficulty level to be exact) with three different difficulties. This can, perhaps, seem limited in scope initially, but the variation comes from the different loadouts that you unlock with currency that you earn from each run. Different pieces of equipment can potentially alter your playstyle tr…
Graphics look great and the game has very cool designs and asethetics overall. Gameplay however is mediocre at best. Gameplay become repetitive even after the first 20 or so minutes and theres very little diversity in the gameplay even as you progress. Had to go out of my way to watch YouTube videos to see if the game was even worth continuing as the first half hour was incredibly monotonous. Progression is slow, forcing you to play the same level for at least half an hour with the exact same spawn and set of enemies.
Every hit feels good.
kill knight is a good, fun experience and while I will list some negatives, I don't want that to take away from the fact it is definitely a lot of fun, even if you don't really have much experience with twin stick shooters (outside of dead ops arcade lmao) like myself. It has a good balance of difficulty and balance (even though sufferance is well named) and can definitely give you a big challenge. the art style is great and the setting itself is really cool. it also has a good chunk of content and replayability for the price if you really fall in love with it. My negatives are that for some reason after playing for an hour or two it does make my eyes feel a bit sore almost. Turning HDR off did help this, but I can see its not just me saying it, really unsure as to what causes it. The other complaint is that almost all of the gear challenges wont be accomplished naturally, at least not for me. I appreciate making the later items like this, but would prefer if more were easier to obtain by playing normally. I unlocked a few items naturally, but apart from that you will just have to do entire runs purely for items and I feel that takes away from the experience, for me anyway. you can…
