This game does NOT run in English! The opening page offers English but doesn't retain the selection for the actual game. Please fix! Кукуево/Kukuevo is made by Developers, mwm4 and Hadilor, a team of 2 people. This review is based only on the information I got off the store page. It sounds like it could be an interesting game. But since it does not run in English I will never know unless the Developer gets around to fixing this very important issue. This has been known in the discussions since Sept 29, 2023. Story telling is an important part of playing a Visual Novel, if I can't read it then I have no idea what is going on. An ordinary office clerk named Dima has a terrible day and quits his job. Unable to come up with anything better, Dima decides to run away from the routine to the village where he used to visit his grandmother as a child. The village hides many secrets and puzzles that need to be solved. Dima begins to get to know the locals and explore their stories. In the Visual Novel "Kukuevo", the player immerses themselves in the world of a mysterious village, which becomes the main storyline of the game. I completed Kukuevo today. I initially did not purchase the game due to numerous comments in the the Community Hub and the Review that stated the English language translation did not work. I will note that Developer acknowledgement of the problem was excessively delayed and people seemed upset by that fact and that is why I waited to purchase it. It was fixed as of late November 2023. I was originally attracted to Kukuevo due to the artwork shown on Steam and the fact that the story seemed different and interesting. The artwork is stylistically different and I would call it retro with a twist. It goes well with the story but I would have liked to have seen more variations in the characters because it seemed limited in scope and did not always fit the situation in clothing or expressions. The story was different than I expected from the blurb but it was still interesting. It could have used more fleshing out though, especially on some of the background in the village. Is the translation janky as heck? Yes. Is the plot simple and the dialogue corny? Oh yah. Does everyone look either 17 or 90? And how. But the artwork is pretty, there are laughs to be had, and the whole thing is just really cozy. I had fun and got some cheevos. Two thumbs up, comrade.
