La Villa de la Muerte

I feel the bits where you are put back at the start and have to walk forward again take too much of the tension away from the game. It's decent, but it also both super leads the player to where they need to go and also gives them so little of the story that they're guessing. MY GUESS was that Veronica (the mother) cheated on Ricardo (the father) who refused to accept the twins as his own, due to the infidelity. Not bad, but not great either. Good thing it is free.

"La Villa de la Muerte" looks fantastic but it's a train wreck in terms of design and playability. What happened here, a bunch of really talented graphic designers and 3D modelers got together and made fantastic game assets and then failed to make a game with them... ah, of course, this is a basic asset flip (although, the developer doesn't seem to be trying to profit from the work of others here). I'm not sure why people seem to think putting their own name on other people's game assets will make them into rockstar game developers with EA, Bethesda and Bioware lining up around the block to hire them. Anyway this is a poorly made first person asset flipped horror game, it's thankfully short but you may not be able to finish it. Not because it's hard, but because it's a buggy train wreck that can softlock you out of the game progression because they never bothered to test it. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game ass…

La Villa de la Muerte is really an excellent, somewhat challenging and scary game. Maybe I am playing a more polished version, since I see a few bad reviews complaining about things I never experienced or ran into. There is no permadeath and level progress is not lost, so that might make it a bit too easy to complete the game for the skilled player. As the game stands now the story is somewhat flat, being only one cryptic note, picture and a map, with nothing more to explain what happened in this place and why it is haunted and why you must exorcise the malevolent spirit that wants you dead. The ending is also enigmatic, leaving the player knowing that the game is complete, but not knowing if the player character ultimately survived. Even so, the fun factor remains intact and it is worth a quick play.
