Kikka the Steadfast is a sensitive and empathetic woman who uses a mask of stoicism to protect herself from the harsh world she lives in. Much of everything she’s done has been an attempt to find some semblance of security, including the career path she chose to pursue. Kikka works as an official guard for one of the many tiny villages in the region. Her most recent assignment is to travel with fellow guard Bemelle to an allied town that’s been under siege by raiders.
With an ever-present sense of urgency, the two find themselves on the shore of Sinnlos, a cursed lake of black water that is home to the Nixi; twisted creatures who take joy in drowning humans. The two need the assistance of a nameless guide to even attempt to cross the maze of bridges spanning the dark waters. But they are not the only ones seeking passage that night. The guide agrees to lead them all, whilst also giving a warning that a group this large has no chance of making it across whole. Someone will be lost along the way. None of them volunteer to stay behind, regardless. And so the ill-fated journey over the lake of voices begins.

Felt like I was reading a physical book. Every ending had me on edge trying to piece it all together, and the full picture did not disappoint.2 found this helpful
Pretty impressive VN for being free. I'm not sure I would call it a "horror". It has a bit of a creepy atmosphere and can be a bit creepy at times but overall I wasn't particularly phased. The writing is mostly good. Each individual run is fairly short but there's a lot of branching paths. Most of the wider lore comes from one specific path and if you think about it too hard it loses some of its coherence but overall still enjoyable. This game has full voice acting which is pretty unusual for a free title. The voice acting is certainly not perfect but it does the job well enough. If this game was paid I'd keep my rating as "Recommended" probably up to about £10.
Really like the art alot, fascinated by nixi and I'm glad to have found this gem!
Like I was reading a really good book! Kept me hooked on every twist and turn and all the characters were interesting to follow, including the player's own. A simple and short play, but can keep you entertained for a while if you wanna get into every nook and cranny like I did for all the routes/achievements/cgs! Which, the cg art is beautiful and haunting, by the way. For the low price of free and only a few hours of your time this is WELL worth checking out!
As I continue to play this game I got realll hooked into the story, the stakes, it was so interesting Although I feel accomplished managing to save Bel and Margaret. Wonder if I would learn more about the mystery surrounding the Guide but that's for another time
