About Land Above Sea Below Prologue

Immerse yourself in the tranquil world of the eternal autumn, where your goal is to build and expand your self-built island as wisely as possible to avoid being washed away by the ever-rising sea levels. Land Above Sea Below is a fine-tuned mixture of the landscape builder, puzzle, and strategy genre, with fun and constantly challenging gameplay, yet with a nice and calm atmosphere.

Your imagination is the only limit - from the infinitely available, procedurally generated tiles you can build the island of your dreams. Build majestic forests, cascading rivers, and lovely villages.

Synergies can be created throughout properly placed groups of tiles, so your entire island can be positively affected by the placement of a single tile. Keeping this in mind from the very beginning of the game is a must.

A forward-looking strategy is the key to success. With careful planning, you can place similar tiles that interact with each other in their best possible location. These interactions result in a height increase and award you with valuable points that can be transferred to essential aids during the game. By achieving certain score points, you can unlock different rewards, like extra steps in the season, a sea level decrease, or even a new Tree of Fall.

The flood is coming at the end of every season. You need to ensure that your island - or at least your starting tile on which the Tree of Fall grows, is at a safe distance from sea level.

Features

  • Procedurally generated tiles - you will have infinitely available, procedurally generated tiles that you can lay on the map. This method ensures, that every island you create, and every new game you play, will be unique, and unrepeatable. Autumn groves, rivers, rocky mountains, forests, villages, and sea items will inhabit your map.
  • Island extensions - as you progress in expanding your island and exploring undiscovered areas on the map, you might bump into lonely, tiny islands. If you connect your main island to them, these islands (its tiles) will be attached to your land.
  • Infinite gameplay mode - your goal is to keep the Tree Of Fall alive. As long as this tile is above sea level, the game continues. The length of the game only depends on how long you can survive.
  • Minimalistic style - we deliver precisely handcrafted beautiful biomes in the game, with the minimalistic style that we love so much.

This demo showcases a work-in-progress game. We used a season cap as a limitation, and we have reduced the availability of tile versions, but you will be able to taste the atmosphere and dive into the game's world. "Land Above Sea Below Prologue" is is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Land Above Sea Below". Land Above Sea Below is a mobile/browser tier non-game, one of those "decorate a landscape/build a village" iPhone screen tappers where you can layout some rustic and charming looking environment. Why? So you can look at it. Pointless, isn't it? But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Land Above Sea Below, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Land Above Sea Below Prologue" too. The purpose of this advertisement is to get you to shell out a whopping $8 USD on buying Land Above Sea Below, and I don't recommend you do that either. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. As an advertisement, this is o…

Had this game demo in my library for a while, decided I’d finally try it. I was both delighted and disappointed. The concept is good for a little puzzle challenge, the graphics beautiful, the music chill. But there was no tutorial so I was left guessing as to what to do and how to do it. Maybe that’s the point, it’s not so complex to learn, but I came away after about 45 min not really quite sure of how to achieve the aims of the game (raising the level of tiles) and how different tiles affect the mechanics of that. I did start to piece it together, but mostly I’m still left confused as to how or why something I did worked. I quite like puzzle games like this, even enjoying greatly tile-laying board games like Dorfromantik and Carcassonne. And yet, I came away feeling Land Above is too simplistic… or at least that the demo offered neither an enticing tutorial or enough challenge to draw me in. Which is as I said, disappointing. To add to this I spent a good five minutes trying to get the game to close as it refused to quit out - even with Alt Tab and Ctrl Alt Del. I have a pretty good gaming PC so not sure what happened there. If I could give a ‘meh’ rating, I would. As it stand…
