Laughing to Die

Laughing to Die is a haunting and deeply introspective narrative puzzle game developed by the Chinese studio 大吉利制作组 and published by Gamera Games alongside Gamirror Games. It is a work that transcends its modest scope, transforming a simple concept into an emotionally charged meditation on family, memory, and the unspoken traumas that can fester beneath tradition. The story begins with a young woman named Nannan returning to her rural hometown to attend her grandmother’s one-hundredth birthday funeral, an event paradoxically known as a “happy funeral.” The tone, at first, seems light—this is a cultural celebration of longevity, of a life that has reached completion. Yet beneath the surface of the ceremony lies a sense of unease. Nannan catches a fleeting glimpse of her grandmother’s figure, impossibly alive, and soon finds herself pulled into a surreal world where the boundaries between memory and reality dissolve. As the story unfolds, Nannan must navigate a labyrinthine house filled with puzzles, echoes of voices, and distorted fragments of the past. The house becomes a metaphorical space—a reflection of her grandmother’s memories and regrets, as well as Nannan’s own discomfort …

非常喜歡的一個遊戲，要說缺點應該就是太短了。 我個人喜歡劇情向的遊戲，很討厭與劇情無關的解謎，所以在我看來這個遊戲的解謎難度是剛好，不會覺得太蠢也不會卡流程，主要是起到推動劇情的作用（而不是測試玩家智商）。所有的解謎都和劇情高度相關，很多隱喻，可以讓人回味。 美術和音樂都很好。音樂配得很得當，喜歡開頭的嗩吶，搖籃曲的旋律也真的讓人無限傷感。美術很有自己的風格，也很中國！不過背景設定感覺還不是很細膩，各種用具、說話風格之類的有點混搭，感覺像北方，又管女兒叫囡囡。 我覺得整個遊戲風格對“小孩子是主角”這一點把控得很好，從恐怖程度，到囡囡對各種東西的反映，到囡囡的行動方式，囡囡說話有刺痛人的地方但還是保留著小孩子的味道。 最後結局部分感覺稍顯單薄，也許對民俗和某個具體故事有更深的把握的話，會在結局部分寫出更深刻的隱喻台詞和謎題。也許奶奶的想法和痛苦可以表達得更多，奶奶子女對她的態度可以表達得更多（比如為什麼一直在喝藥我還是不確定），總覺得沒說夠。

Very suffocating to go through her life - how happy she was while she's surrounding by love and light, then how tragic she was after being stuffed into endless darkness without any help but only ruthless exploitation . How pathetic this culture and society !
