About Legends of Starkadia

Brought to you by the developers of Ember Knights and their latest project, Welcome to Harmony. When one bored Earthling teen is accidentally teleported to the far flung Starkadian Empire, he lands face first in the middle of an interdimensional battle between good and evil, with the fate of the universe at stake! Now it’s up to him and a ragtag bunch of misfits to defeat the shadowy, extradimensional armies of the Empire and become the heroes the system needs.
Key Features:
 • Strategic turn-based combat with quick-time events (QTEs) for offense and defense
 • A deeply rich and engaging story with multiple secret and side missions
 • 12 quirky characters to unlock and play as, each with their own unique attributes and skills
 • A sprawling universe with over 11 planets to explore
Note: This adventure contains one planet only and should take approximately 2 hours to complete. The full experience is an epic journey across 11 planets from Scrap World to Starkadia and beyond! The complete story has been written but not yet developed.
A Glimpse of What Could Have Been
Legends of Starkadia caught my eye when I noticed the developers had released it for free after deciding to abandon it and move on to another project. It's essentially an unfinished story, but I'm glad they released what they had instead of letting it disappear. I absolutely love a good turn-based RPG, and this one has the foundation of a great one. I really hope the developers come back to it someday. Maybe if their current project is successful, they'll revisit Starkadia. The story isn't necessarily anything new, but it's full of charming characters and solid turn-based combat. I definitely recommend giving it a try. It's a fun couple of hours. The game is really good. The animation style reminds me a lot of Nickelodeon. For the gameplay, it uses a turn-based system similar to Legend of Dragoon, where you have to press the button again at the right moment to get a Perfect. If you get a Perfect, you deal bonus damage. It’s really fun, bro. The story is also pretty simple and enjoyable.

I saw this game at PAX East a couple years ago and was super excited too see more. Really sad to see it go, but it is a good hour and a half of fun. You can tell the bones of the game are pretty good. One thing I really liked is the indicator of when to do the action commands. Something I had issues with in Paper Mario, Bug Fables, and Sea of Stars is sometimes it isn't clear when to block and a clear indicator helps rather then guessing until I get it right. I was hoping this would be the next great one in the genre, but alas it isn't meant to be.

This game is awesome. I wish the devs had kept working on it. Highly recommend the game!

It's fine. Obviously this is an incomplete game but I'm not sure it would have the mechanical depth to keep my attention like many of these Paper Mario style games. Having to do the QTEs gets kind of tiresome since they slow down the pace of the combat a lot. A bit bummed to see a pivot from this to yet another roguelike deck builder but I appreciate the devs for making this available to people. Bummer that it doesn't support any resolution higher than 1080p as things were a bit pixelated on my 1440p monitor.

It's a very charming and well made RPG. There is plenty of charm and the mechanics are well developed. It deserves to be more and there are those of us hoping the dev finds support to continue working on this gem.
