LightFish is a highly addictive arcade game, where the user controls a small fish who lives in the abyssal deeps of the ocean... surrounded by deadly creatures. His objective is to destroy all the monsters who inhabit those dangerous zones by drawing lines onto unexplored territory. If you've ever played Qix or Volfied, you'll feel right at home with Lightfish — it's a clean, polished take on the classic formula of cutting up a map while dodging enemies, dressed up in a slick aquatic aesthetic with a solid soundtrack. The campaign runs about two to three hours and introduces new enemy types and hazards at a decent pace, though the scoring system pushes you to rush rather than play strategically, which can feel at odds with the risk-reward gameplay the genre does best. The lack of a quick level restart shortcut is genuinely annoying, and the game does show its console port roots with hard-coded controller prompts, but the core gameplay is responsive and satisfying enough to paper over those rough edges. If you're a fan of the genre, it's worth picking up on sale — just don't expect it to top Fortix 2.
I've played games like this, like the Fortix series, but not quite sure what the genre is called. In this game you are a fish and you must start from the perimeter and slowly make boxes without touching any of the sea life and eventually box up enough of the level that you can claim it yours and end the level. The sea life gets more difficult and more random on how it moves. Some move in the same direction constantly and bounce off walls as you would expect them too, like playing pool, but others swim around with varying paths. It definitely gets more difficult as the levels progress, but still very casual. The levels change up and add more difficulty such as ice blocks that slow you down and fire blocks that kill you when you touch them. Again, it never gets too difficult, and obtaining all achievements is really not that difficult if you just put in a bit of effort. I'm not really recommending this game as it's not a great game, but still fun if you choose to sit and chill for some time with it. Mostly my thumbs up is for the devs for putting together a solid game that works well, plays well, and keeps you entertained for a few hours.
I probably wouldn't say highly addictive, but it's alright.
I love it! Very calming, good music, impressive game design, and I can return to play in small sessions. It reminds me of the old Arcade game "QIX."
