Liminal Universe

Great game! 1 achievement is broken [SAT DOWN] and will require you to download an older depot of the games files. The developer seems to have removed the mechanic but left the achievement, which is almost as bad as moving a cemetery and leaving the graves and bodies. For that alone, I must not recommend the game to anyone. I sure liked it though, so its too bad they chose this route.

The levels genuinely just feel unpolished and unintentional, maybe even rushed. There is no story, which would be fine if the environment had honest thought and effort behind it. But at least for me, it fails to convey that. And poorly aligned textures and objects don't help the case. The seemingly "random" nature of liminal spaces shouldn't equate to lack of intentional level design. Also lacks quality of life and accessibility features such as a proper save system (only saves at the beginning of a level) and motion sickness settings (constant headbobbing can be a problem for many). I unfortunately can't recommend this one.

An exploration game that delves into the depths of patience. I picked it up when it was discounted to half price and while I'm satisfied with the experience, I'm having trouble recommending it to others. I like walking simulators. This one is looks really good, but not great. The music was scarce, but appropriate when it did make an appearance. The ambient noise and sound effects were also not great. Fortunately I was able to mute the sound of breathing and footsteps. The movement was glacially slow until I toggled the sprint mode on. The game is presented in three chapters (referred to as Tapes in game). There is no save system. You can only start at the beginning of a chapter and the first one takes forever to complete. I didn't find the experience too creepy, but there are a couple areas that might bother players who don't appreciate that kind of content. If you're looking for a walking simulator with little else to offer, play Liminal Universe.

Since the Backrooms movie, we view Backrooms games differently because the film gave not only to the lore, but to the Backrooms itself a whole new meaning and context, regarding what the Backrooms actually is, and how it functions. For example, we now know that the Backrooms, as a living entity, doesn't create from its own mind or its own view of the material world, but from its own vague memories. That's why everything is so abstract, incoherent, and impossible. In that sense, you could say this is an interesting walking simulator set in the Backrooms universe, because it lets you wander off in your own mind, but unfortunately, it's far from standing on its own as a Backrooms game. It's a linear walking experience with no interactivity beyond pushing 3 buttons and maybe opening the same number of doors. There isn't even a slide you could use or some weird puzzle to solve to progress, it's just another walking simulator, with high potencial to be expanded with new content, although thats not happening, because the game was abandonded monts ago with it's minor and major technical glitches and even flaws with it's own mechanics like the known issue of not being able to sit d…

It's an okay game; unfortunately, it's dead, and I would not recommend buying it unless it's on sale. I thought it was going to be good, but it ended up just ehh, I did play through it all to get all the achievements though, so that is possible, but all in all, just skip this one.
