Lucid

This is a slow, relaxing game. You are given a color to eliminate by clicking on two or more adjacent blocks. Sometimes you have to eliminate 3 in one move. The moves that are required give points. If you have to eliminate some others to make the special color available, the score doesn't advance. The best thing is to eliminate a whole string when that color is required. Then you get lots of points. Sometimes I get in a situation where there are no moves, so I start over. I've been playing Lucid off and on for many years. It gets more difficult as you advance.

For a game that is suppose to be calming and zen like it can sometimes be remarkably frustrating. The fun of watching big numbers quickly fades and out right ends right around level 30. After 35 it just becomes a tedious slog. The special clear board blocks "lucid blocks" become few and far between. I don't think I got a single one on any level after 45. What little fun I was having was completely gone at the higher levels. It wasn't difficult, it was tedium.

Snow Bunny Mind Control puzzle game from about the era when Candy Crush popped off. Yeah, I said it. On the surface a chill high score challenge. Unfortunately the combination of fixed starting arrangements and random targeted combinations (not to mention bonus block generation) you need to clear to advance means that the ideal way to play the game is to save and reload the stages until you get a task sequence that carries you through to your satisfaction, hopefully generating the max amount of lucid boxes possible. In other words, whether you can get a max combo (from first match to last match) into a high score or not is as much RNG as planning. I'm not a fan of that though I suppose if you don't save scum this design technically gives it replay value. You also can't just select stages to re-play which is a feature I feel like is in a lot of serious puzzle games these days. The resolution settings are kind of janky (3 out of the 5 starting options crashed the game for me) too but once you get into full screen mode it looks and plays fine so I'm not going to hold that against it too much. Levels are very easy until you hit level ~45 and the game becomes an RNG slog. Having to either restart levels or endlessly manage your grid until the game decides to give you the color you need.
