Lulu's Temple

Short and sweet! Does not overstay its welcome! cute artstyle and lovely music! Has a very fun way of using light for survival and combat, with small addition to the gameplay at almost every level - making the game feel continually fresh whilst you get a chance to hone the basics. :-)

Lulu’s Temple is a compact action-adventure that makes an immediately memorable impression through its combination of Egyptian tomb exploration, pixel-art violence, platforming, and darkness-based navigation. Developed and published by Agelvik, it places players in the role of an archaeologist who becomes trapped inside an ancient pyramid filled with undead creatures and deadly hazards. The basic objective of escaping is easy to understand, allowing the game to concentrate on moment-to-moment exploration rather than overwhelming the player with complicated systems or excessive exposition. Darkness is one of the most important parts of the experience. The pyramid is deliberately difficult to navigate without illumination, making the protagonist’s torch more than a cosmetic accessory. Moving into unexplored chambers requires caution because enemies, platforms, traps, and pathways may remain concealed until the surrounding area is illuminated. This creates an effective tension between curiosity and self-preservation. It's a solid quick game. This would be a hit flash game on newground back in 2010. I had some fun. Casual platformer stuff there but the torch/weapons feel satisfying to use and I wasn't getting boring at any point during playthrough. I'd say if you have an "itch" to try an indie game to play in the evening, try this one.

A short 45 min - 1.25 hr game that is a very competent and difficult at times platformer. It is built around a strong central mechanic and utilizes its limited toolset to its full advantage. Very strong recommendation.

This game has a very unique vibe. The music and sound make everything a little nerve wracking, and I love that! It's also incredibly fun to play. I really appreciate all the unique applications of the torch!
