Lumberjacked

Holy hell, do not buy this. Don't even try this. This is a game where you are lost in a forest... so you cut the forest down, so you're lost in a big map where everything looks the same. I thought I could cut down a tree to the stump, and use that as a guiding post. But when you upgrade your chopping power, trees don't become stumps anymore, they just get shredded completely. You have to cut down trees, buy upgrades, cut down more trees. I thought that sounded great. I'm the kind of person who wins Age of Empires maps by cutting trees to get into the enemies base. If I attack the wall, they'll be alerted, but nobody expects you to cut down the entire black forest! But this.... Oh my god, this. So you have two options to win. You can help the fairies or you can help the gnomes. One option leads you to having to cut down literally every single tree. Hey, good luck finding that one tree you didn't cut down hours ago, in a game that has no map. You can look up a map, and vaguely try to work out where things are, but given that literally everything looks the same, it's not going to work out very well, is it? Lumberjacked is a decent game at its core, but there are a few things that stop me from recommending it. The main issue is navigating the world with no map, and borderline useless compass. Trying to remember where you've been and how to get back to an area you want to revisit is painful unless you are someone with great mental mapping abilities. There are few landmarks and everything looks the same except for the different types of trees. And collecting everything (or chopping all the trees) is just tedious with the way the game is now. A secondary issue is the lack of a few quality of life upgrades that would go a long way: auto-throw, expand log pickup radius, and auto-pick mushrooms would be simple upgrades that could be unlocked to east the spam clicking and roomba maneuvers that you need to do during the course of the game. The one main existing QoL feature, the drone, is mostly worthless since it is so slow and requires you to manually gather tons of mushrooms to level up. By the time you get those mushrooms you will likely already be past the limit of needing money.

Fun game

Got tedious very fast. I would have quit much sooner had I not been more focused on listening to new music in the background. Biggest issue I think is that your minute to minute gameplay hardly changes. In a game with 10,000 trees to cut, it is insane that there is no upgrade that allows you to cut down multiple trees at once, nor is there an upgrade to your log pickup radius. Cutting down each tree individually and then having to run around picking up logs is a boring pain. Fun concept for a game. Poor execution. Also my computer was crying at me whenever I left too many logs on the ground, which is very easy to do through regular play.

Terrible controls. The controller controls are worse. The pop ups it gives you to do to use something dont even do anything. Plus I cant seem to pick up the wood from the ground. I cant figure it out. Been playing games for 40 years and this is insane! Shame it looked like a relaxing fun game.
