Manor of the Damned!

I do NOT recommend this game to anyone. There were repeated bugs that made the game unplayable from the very beginning. I was unable to open passages to continue past the first and second areas, after several restarts.

In the present state I cannot recommend this game to anyone. It has some serious glitches that seem to be related the disappearance of the sfx after even brief playing periods. There was already another reviewer here that pointed out a glitch preventing the opening of walls and passages. (Edit note) I am in contact with the game developer and they are attempting to resolve this nasty game breaking issue now. Once the bug/s are squashed I will likely be revising my review and even reversing my recommendation. My only cause for a downvote is the fact that the game is unplayable in this present state. I can't even get it to progress far enough to find the first save point which would be enough to frustrate any player, especially when you can see the means of progression but you can't progress further due to the glitches. From what little I was able to play in between the glitches, it would seem to remind me of a Zelda-esqe title. Wander through the environment filled with enemies, that are mostly rats, in search of clues and ways to progress. Combat is uncomplicated and made even simpler by every kill restoring a fair bit of health. The plot starts out with heavy exposition and attempts to build up tension but instead comes on to think to hold itself together.

Manor of the Damned! is an interesting RPG game. Retro style and graphics, a throwback to console style of RPGs. It does have an engaging story that looks very interesting and is rather well detailed. Books explaining lore, NPCs who have either flavor or something to tell you about your quest. Gameplay: The game plays in an action RPG fashion and although it looks like a japanese console RPG, combat is realtime and not turn-based. You start with absolutely nothing and wander around until you find your first sword! Extra points for being non-linear. You will find locked doors which you can't open until you find the key later on etc etc. The game doesn't use a mouse, it's keyboard or gamepad only. But you don't really need one. Graphics: Retro style graphics, says everything really. They're very well done. Music/Sound Design: The soundtrack is great and extra points for not being packed. Meaning you will find the tracks in the game's directory as .ogg files. Sound effects are also fitting the style of the game.
