The game is okay and I would recommend it for some casual fun (despite Kyrgios's face on the cover...). On the positive side, it offers realistic gameplay and is compatible with the Steam Deck. However, there are significant areas for improvement, particularly in graphics and content. As noted by others, the game feels somewhat simplistic and lacks depth. To put it into perspective, AO Tennis 2, released two years earlier, provides a more comprehensive experience with features like the ability to challenge points, multiple difficulty levels, match length settings, better character customization, a game editor, and various game modes. Given that Matchpoint was released two years later, I expected a richer content offering and more advanced features. In terms of longevity, I found that after less than three hours of play, I was already mastering the hardest difficulty level. This rapid progression can also lead to boredom quite quickly. Overall, it’s worth buying only if you can get it heavily discounted.

"Fun for casual tennis fans, but lacks depth over time“ I picked this up because I’ve always loved playing tennis in real life, and figured I’d give it a shot virtually. Gotta say—‘Matchpoint - Tennis Championships’ does a pretty decent job of capturing the feel of the sport in a simple, accessible way. The controls are super easy to learn, which makes it great even if you don’t really know much about tennis. You won’t be overwhelmed by complicated mechanics or button combos—just pick it up and start hitting. The character customization is decent (not super deep, but enough to keep it interesting), and the tutorial and career mode were actually more polished than I expected. It’s fun building your player up and climbing the ranks! That said… the game does get repetitive pretty fast. The physics and gameplay mechanics are very basic. Once you get the hang of a few simple tricks, even the harder AI becomes predictable. It’s kind of a bummer because the core gameplay loop doesn’t evolve much over time. Most championship matches start to feel the same after a while. Still, I had fun with it overall. It’s light, it’s easy to pick up, and it scratches that tennis itch without…

Matchpoint - Tennis Championships is a grounded and methodical tennis simulation that prioritizes on-court decision-making and positional play over flashy presentation or arcade excess. Developed by Torus Games and published by Kalypso Media, the game aims to carve out a middle ground between accessibility and realism, offering an experience that rewards patience, timing, and tactical awareness. Rather than attempting to overwhelm players with spectacle, it focuses on replicating the rhythm, momentum shifts, and mental chess match that define real tennis. At the core of Matchpoint is a control system built around deliberate shot selection and court positioning. Players must constantly weigh risk versus reward when choosing between flat shots, topspin, slices, lobs, and aggressive winners. Success is rarely achieved through button mashing; instead, rallies hinge on reading your opponent’s movement, anticipating their returns, and placing shots intelligently. Timing windows and stamina management play a meaningful role, encouraging thoughtful pacing rather than constant aggression. Once the mechanics click, rallies develop a satisfying ebb and flow that mirrors the tactical nature o…
