Math Hero is yet another of literally hundreds of lazy amateur 2D retro top-down shooter/brawlers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. But, somehow, they found a way to make this worse. It's a somewhat family friendly educational type of 2D top down shooter... you see, every time you shoot, you're given an arithmetic question to answer. Then you can move and shoot again. This is not making education better, it's making gaming worse. The technical implementation for this game is really at the bottom of the barrel... it would be barely acceptable in the early 1990's, but this was released this decade.. it's just not okay for games to be this badly made. The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contempo…

Math Hero, developed and published by Right Games, is an educational action game that attempts to make mathematics more entertaining by combining mental arithmetic with fast-paced arcade gameplay. Instead of relying on traditional quizzes or textbook-style exercises, the game places players in combat scenarios where solving mathematical problems becomes the primary weapon against waves of enemies. This creative premise gives the experience an identity that separates it from many educational titles, offering an engaging way to practice arithmetic while maintaining the excitement of a simple action game. Its accessible mechanics make it suitable for younger audiences, but anyone looking to sharpen their calculation speed can also find value in its straightforward design. The core gameplay revolves around answering math equations as quickly and accurately as possible. Each correct solution allows the player to eliminate enemies before they become overwhelming, creating a satisfying balance between puzzle-solving and survival. Rather than emphasizing complicated controls, the game focuses almost entirely on the player's ability to think quickly under pressure. This design keeps the le…

I mean some of the lower multipliers I could see being fun for a child learning arithmetic. However some of these larger problems are a bit unreasonable while having to dodge an ever-growing army with clunky controls.

This game is actually a good idea. But it's implemented so stupendously badly that it is impossible to play properly or at all. You can check the discussions for more information. But if you need to practice arithmetic at human speed, this is not the way.

Great educational fighting game to play with children or if you need brain exercise, by yourself too. It looks a little like Into The Eagles Nest for Commodore 64 8-bit computer. Can be played as co-op with one moving and one typing numbers and hits enter when there are enemies withing ammo range. Shooting is auto aim, since aiming with moving and calculating is just too much of challenge. Cons: The game is windowed only and the high score list seems to update one game too late. Development idea: Enemy friendly fire on would make this game more tactic and realism. You could lure enemies to crossfire each other and dodge their fire yourself.
