Mervils: A VR Adventure

It's a funny game with cute characters, but it really doesn't need VR. Actually, VR just makes it unnecessarily complicated in many situations.

If you're a fan of platformers and good with controller games like Spyro, you'll probably really enjoy this game. If you're like me, and barely made it through Moss because you had difficulty making a jump because of an awkward viewing angle, you may get frustrated with this one. I was really into this game all through the beginning levels, but as the jumps started getting trickier, I had problems getting a vantage point that was comfortable for me, and I kept falling off things (or missing my landing spot completely). After an hour and a half, I was frustrated enough that I had to put it down. I'm sure I'll go back to it eventually. The characters that you encounter are entertaining. Combat was simple (which I actually liked), and the maps were pretty cool. I enjoyed exploring and hunting the coins/chests/pages. If you're a pro at platformers, you may not get as frustrated as I did with some of the places you have to navigate. All in all, it's definitely enjoyable and fun.

its just so-so. had real mario64 feel first few minutes and then you realize its just not that good. Overall Gameplay- 3/10 Graphics- 3/10 Content- 7/10 Enjoyability- 5/10 Controls- 5/10 Vr Immersion- 4/10 Puzzles- 2/10 Combat- 1/10 I can't think of much I liked about this game other than it is well polished for what it is. Shooting out of canons a la Mario64 is fun but that was about it. And it has a minecart like dk but also not. Everything they emulate is done sub par unfortunately. It was $6 on sale I wouldn't pay more than that if you REALLY want it. I still don't recommend. Could be recommended to young children though, as kids are dumb.

Mervils is generic fantasy fare, but still fun. You control an adventurer going through various worlds collecting coins, solving puzzles, and attacking enemies. The game is over 5 years old at this point, so the textures are not as advanced as newer titles, but the game still looks great. Most of the levels are open world, meaning you can explore where you want. There is plenty of platforming and jumping, which may be difficult for those without VR and platforming experience. There were a few issues playing with Quest 2 regarding controls. There is no way to rebind keys. I could not figure out how to use the "waypoint" system, which wasn't necessary to finish the game anyway. Also, a few levels put you in a minecart or sled and ask you to jump or avoid obstacles, and this was very difficult on Quest 2 since you have to click and move the joystick at the same time. If you are on a budget and new to VR, I'd suggest Moss or Lucky's Tale VR first. I recommend this game to those who love platformers and medieval fantasy settings, and want more in that genre.

Play style is different, different is by no means bad but it's insanely clunky and hard to see what you're doing. I love the idea of this game and playing it in third person, but it's just not well done for third person.
