Metal Hunter (Steam) – Review Metal Hunter is one of those rare niche games that clearly exists for fans of the Metal Max / Metal Saga style, and it doesn’t try to hide that at all. It’s basically a love letter to that formula—but also very rough around the edges. First Impressions Right away, you can tell this game is not a big-budget project. The developers even describe it as an “experimental imitation” of an older system , and that shows. The visuals are simple pixel-style, the UI can feel dated, and the presentation is minimal. But if you’ve played older Metal Max games, that actually feels kind of familiar rather than bad. Gameplay & Core Mechanics This is where the game shines. Great bang for nothing! A true homage to classic Metal Max, a must play if you need a fix or if you're new to the concept as this would essentially be the Mystic Quest of Metal Max games if it was official, a perfect simple introductory into the world of a would-be metal max. There are some bugs from the game that can scare you, save often! Be sure to change the language option in the system menu to English, the game is translated. On keyboard, K is Confirm and J is Cancel. WASD keys is movement. I only wish the music in this fan game was as hyped as the WANTED theme song for the metal max/metal saga series when fighting bounty targets.

Game not finished yet but very good overall if you are Metal Max long-time fan. I will definitely buy it when it got full released.

I know what you are thinking - "This looks like a simple RPG that is nothing interesting and run of the mill" Metal Hunter is inspired by a series of games called Metal Max / Saga. There have been several games in that series and 99% of them have never been released outside of Japan. The few released are Metal Saga which actually is pretty good and Xeno which is garbage due to they stripped out a ton of stuff for western players. It's a very NICHE series and is not well-known for western players. You become a hunter that takes on bounties in a decently sized RPG world and battling in-between of monsters and robots. You also get to mount and use vehicles in battle. It's very open-ended. You aren't pushed into stuff. You can do things at your own pace. Metal Hunter is basically fan game with the same principles. You become a hunter, you go buy / find vehicles, you upgrade your character and you fight bosses while some-what of a story revolves around. You can upgrade the vehicles you find with parts. The main thing is there are tons of bosses and parts you can find. I've had this sitting in my library for awhile but apparently the new dev team only just recently …
