Meteorfall: Rustbowl Rumble

This is such a good game that I bought it for mobile as well as PC. Sadly, it is bug-riddled, many runs cannot be completed as they will consistently crash, which really is a bummer. So - be prepared to re-start from scratch quite often. All in all very much a mixed bag, which will hopefully be improved to become more stable over time.

This is an prime example of an hidden gem game. Got little attention on release, yet was clearly shown a lot of love and care with it's Adventure Time aesthetic. It really shows how crowded the roguelike market is. This game is an simplified Monster Train two, where you manage an team of three heroes through rounds of an tournament. The draw is that each character has their own unique pool of cards which gets put into an single deck. Then there are quests you get during battles which will give boosts to your heroes if you complete them. Unlike most games, these are not randomly generated, but are drafted to you. Yes, you draft your own quests. That's pretty neat! Lastly there's cards off to the side that can be used once per battle to change the tide. This system isn't too meaty, but it shows that the thought was clearly put into this game. All in all, I can definitely recommend this game for lovers of the deckbuilding genre if you want to play something that's off the radar.

I love the Meteorfall series, and this third installment is no disappointment! Our favorite heroes return, along with a couple of exciting new additions, and must team up if they're going to make it to the top of the heap in Bramble's Arena. I chose to buy this one on steam rather than for my phone, only because my phone couldn't really handle the game; I'm having a blast with it on my steam deck. I highly recommend this game as well as the first two on the series. Buy them on mobile if you can, you won't want to put them down/leave them at home. (The other games have "in-app purchases" but for each games it's a single one-time purchase for an extra character, no ads no gacha crates or anything. The are no dlc/add-ons for this game currently.) Meteorfall and Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale. First one is the hardest, second one has the most unique game mechanics.

The game is as good as abandoned, with promised new characters and updates for 2025 not eventuating. Although the framework for an interesting game is here, and it gives a great first impression, the longer you play it the more apparent it becomes how unfinished it is. There are numerous visual bugs that make it difficult to tell what is going to happen when you end your turn. And given this is a roguelike game where losing your run means you must start over, that’s unforgivable. There’s also very little incentive to keep playing once you’ve won the game a couple of times. Aside from a few characters and powers to unlock, there’s no additional cards or levels to unlock for the characters. So when you’ve played a character once you’ve basically seen all they have to offer. Even the previous Meteorfall game had additional cards to unlock for each character. Compare this to Monster Train 2 where I still haven’t unlocked everything after playing for 40 hours, the difference here is night and day. Overall, a big disappointment.

This is a fantastic game. Not only is it really fun but it has so much personality and great production values.

Big fan of the Meteorfall series, and this continues to deliver! Adds some fantastic twists on the roguelike deckbuilder genre while still maintaining the "quick and fast" gameplay Slothwerks aims for. - Instead of relics, you'll get feats - mini goals you have to complete every battle to recieve their benefit. Makes the drafting of your feats to fit your build even more strategic! - Wild cards are once-per-battle use cards that apply global modifiers to the board; can be used powerfully if you'll get more benefit than your opponents I really like that there's not a bazillion unlocks hidden behind progress (in fact, you can optionally choose to unlock everything from the start). AND there's story cutscenes tied to unlocking new ascension tiers! Meaning I'll actually play this one and reach a reasonable point where I feel content with it rather than just awkwardly petering out one day.
