Mini Z Racers has a charming late 90s aesthetic and nostalgic presentation that appeals to players seeking retro vibes, along with some nice features like hidden characters, multiple event types, and fair AI without rubber-banding. However, the game suffers from oversimplified mechanics with limited depth, unfair difficulty where player characters feel significantly slower and less responsive than AI opponents, and a tedious progression system where earning money for upgrades takes far too long to make advancement rewarding.
Cereal Box Shovelware
Quite fittingly Mini Z racers has that late 90s early 2000s cereal box presentation to it. positive aspects:

The art style and the short music samples, reminds me of old trash i'm nostalgic for.
Partial controller support, is better than no controller support. Mostly, it just doesn't work particularly well on Menus.
Neat character portraits
A store where you can buy upgrades
Hidden characters
3 different types of events with multiple difficulty modes
No Rubber Band AI
Negative aspects:

Simple execution, with very few buttons or hazards
Lack of mechanics. It's fairly straightforward, for example you don't build boost of any kind, and you cant hop.
Characters only differ by initial stats
Huge gap between easy and medium difficulty
Easy difficulty is incredibly boring
Level design, Some maps are just made of a series of 90º angles
last place constantly receiving the best weapon in the game to compensate for the lack of rubber banding
A time trial that is far more difficult than "Angry Mode"
Ha…7 found this helpful
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…3 found this helpful
The game could have been fun. It has the potential to be a fun game, really. but it fails miserably. Every character you play is slower and more difficult to handle in corners than the AI. When the AI gets the character you previously had then it is A LOT faster and handles corners almost perfectly. Thus the race mechanics really fail you every time. The money system will give you such a gringe feeling. It takes SOOOO long to get a decent ammount of money even for the simplest upgrade. I didn't made it that far to get a useful upgrade. Also, can someone explain to me what is this upgrade that lets you unlock scenes from a storyboard? what is the frickin' use of that? Last but most importantly, when you finish a championship, no matter if you finish 1st or last, the game gets you back to the main menu where the only thing you can do is exit the game. you cannot buy things, you cannot enter another championship, you cannot enter ANY OTHER game mode. In conclusion, the game is both badly executed and broken. Don't get it even if you find it in a free giveaway.3 found this helpful
