Missile Command Delta

The missile command part of the game is decent enough but lacks any replayability. However the story and social game is far too shallow.

Let’s start from the beginning. I’d never played the original version of “Missile Command,” which was released in 1980 for arcade machines and later on consoles. The only thing I knew about it, was that John Connor played it in the movie “Terminator 2.” So I had no expectations or demands regarding this game. According to the developers' vision, the game was supposed to be built on three main pillars: turn-based strategy, exploration, and story. Unfortunately, of these three elements, only one is capable of standing on its own. Turn-based strategy - this is where the game really shines. The developers took everything that made the original version unique and memorable, and then modernized those elements. It’s a solid strategy game, offering a variety of tactical options and a wide selection of available weaponry. I like that it forces the player to plan for both current and upcoming attacks in terms of response and combat tactics. I also appreciate that the game stays true to its rules and doesn’t try to bend or break them. Exploration – it’s pretty good for the first few hours, but it falls flat later on in the game. Missile Command Delta is one of the more unexpected retro revivals in recent years because it refuses to rely entirely on nostalgia. Rather than recreating the classic arcade experience shot for shot, the game transforms Atari’s legendary missile-defense concept into a slower, more methodical strategy thriller built around tactical combat, exploration, and mystery-driven storytelling. It is a bold reinterpretation that may initially surprise longtime fans of the original, but the developers deserve credit for attempting something more creative than a simple remake. The result is a game that feels both familiar and entirely different at the same time. The tactical gameplay forms the heart of the experience. Instead of frantic arcade reflexes, players are placed into tense turn-based encounters where incoming missile strikes must be carefully intercepted using limited defensive systems. Every action matters because resources are scarce and mistakes can quickly spiral into disaster. PROS: - The Missile Command puzzles themselves are a fun think-y time! They're the Into The Breach-style puzzle where the next enemy turn is telegraphed and you have to figure out how to counter it. It's also a nice palate cleanser that the story-related ones are just free-for-all rather than having a specific solution. - The escape-room half of the game has some interesting puzzle design and clever little meta-solutions to get around - I like the very lite Inscryption thing of collecting cards in the exploration phase that you use during the puzzles CONS: - The characters are story are... fine? It kicks off feeling like it has promise, but it never really goes anywhere. - The story ends REALLY abruptly - it's not quite "Poochie died on the way back to his home planet", but it feels like they just ran out of time towards the end. - The puzzle sections need 3 things: an undo button, for the screen to not immediately flash "YOU LOSE" (so you can process why you lost), and for the game to remember your previous load out when you retry. I'm overall glad I played this game despite these quirks, and think it's worth checking out if you like puzzies!

Atari pls dont license the golden names of these classics to n00bs that does not understand history... keep it to the brilliant Recharged line.

Seems to be a bit of a shame this game flew so far under the radar. Of course, it's very different from the arcade missile command, but, surprisingly, the turn based structure works really well! The characters seem maybe a little one dimensional, but the intrigue of getting locked in a nuclear bunker makes up for it. The game also seems a little nostalgic in itself, but less for the arcade era, and more for that late ps2 early ps3 era. It's not directly referencing those games in anyway, but it reminds me of them.
