ABI-DOS

This game was [i]awesome![/i] The learning curve was a little steep, but once [strike]you get a grasp on what to do[/strike] the game gets its grasp on you, the learning just continues up through the end of the game. Going back and figuring out some of the challenge modes helped unlock my brain to figure out the later puzzles. The instructions are sometimes a little unclear, but you can usually figure out what to do by analyzing the output. I'm proud to say I beat the game, only looking up three puzzles (in the middle, funny enough. I just needed help to get over a learning hurdle. I got all the ones at the end by myself though!) I wound up designing some of the solutions in my head after a break, either trying to fall asleep or on a long walk, then building them in the game once I could get to the computer. You know the game is good when it keeps the back burners of my brain working! Hugely recommend, especially for its price of free. If you're a fan of Zachtronic games, you will love this.

I enjoyed the first eight levels, but upon the introduction of, one of the triggerable icons fundamentally did not work the way the game describes in the tool tip. I enjoy difficulty, but I have no interest in a system in which I cannot trust the game to accurately communicate the tools of the puzzle.

Simple rules, deep connections. ABI-DOS tries to give you the simplest tools and makes you do the hardest with them, atleast not in the intro levels. Numbers, adders, subtractors, multipliers, the very simple bolts. If you have the brains, then give it a try. It's free anyway... P.S: I'm not done with it yet

This could have been a very nice little game, focused on coding, but analogic coding, oh yes very analogic. It felt like wiring an electronic circuit from very simple components, or coding machine language on a simplistic device. If you like low level algorythmic tinkering, this could have been heaven, but if you only like high level coding you would have hated this game. It doesn't help that the descriptions are written in complete gibberish and require expreimentation to understand what's really going on, and this would have filtered even more players. Some components have unexpected behaviours that just seem to be there to annoy you and sometimes make you wonder if it's a feature or a bug. Talking about bugs, the reason I put a thumb down is that starting at level 20 and 21, the "pointer writer" started behaving abberantly, the pointer started positioning one off the requested value, and the Input Ports started sending wrong values. Definitely a bug, and possibly the reason why the game went free. It seems the bug doesn't happen to everybody? or not a lot of people reached these stages, IDK, the achievements show very little players beyond level 8. [h1](follow my curator page […
